Why the second wall

A site buys a double wall tank when it takes bulk chemical by hose and the floor under the tank is somewhere a release cannot go: a treatment building that drains to the works, a plant room over an occupied space, a yard that drains to a ditch. The outer wall is the containment, arriving as one piece on one footprint instead of a poured berm with its own drawings. Inside that duty, the 1.9 rating picks this part number: it covers liquids up to 1.9 times the weight of water, the coagulants, acids and brines, where the 1.5 version of the same shell does not. If the liquid is water or close to it, the 1.5 tank is the better buy. Check the chemical against polyethylene in our chemical compatibility guide and keep it at or below 120 F. Openings, fittings and the space between the walls

1. Manway. An 18 inch threaded vented manway at 178 inches, which makes a fixed ladder, a platform and fall protection part of the installation. Keep the vent clear; it protects the wall every time a delivery pushes air out and a pump draws the level down.
2. Outlet and pump. Tell us the chemical, the line size and the pump at order and we will confirm which fittings this part number ships with and match every wetted part to the liquid. A black wall shows no level, so fit a low level cut-out on the pump.
3. The space between the walls. How that gap is watched, by a sight port, a sensor or a scheduled look, is settled with the order; ask us what this part number carries.

Walk the route before the truck is booked: gate frames, overhead lines and the door lintel stop more deliveries than weight does, and the offloading equipment needs reach as well as rating. Lift under the base, never by the manway, set it on the cured slab before any pipe is connected, fill it with water and hold that load while you read the base and the manway seal, then drain, dry and look between the walls before the chemical arrives.
