The Snyder Industries 5500 Gallon Double Wall Tank is a contained-storage vessel built from crosslinked linear polyethylene (XLPE) and rated to a specific gravity of 1.5, with one tank nested inside another so any leak from the primary is captured by the outer shell. At 5,500 gallons it stands 172 inches tall on a 120 x 120 inch footprint, supplied in Natural White XLPE. If you are sizing a Snyder double-wall XLPE tank for water or heavier contents, this page has the weights, fittings, and freight detail you need.

Will it work for your install?

The full water weight is 45,870 lb, and at the tank's 1.5 specific gravity rating the maximum rated contents weight climbs to 68,805 lb. That is roughly 22,935 lb of additional rated capacity over what plain water weighs in the same shell, which is the practical reason to choose the crosslinked 1.5 SG version instead of a standard 1.0 SG water tank when your contents run denser than water. Plan the pad for the loaded number, not the empty one: a 120 x 120 inch footprint is 100 square feet bearing up to about 68,805 lb of rated contents, so it demands an engineered, level, fully supporting foundation.

Factory fittings on this tank, per the technical drawing on this page, include a flange, an 18-inch PE threaded and vented fitting, and a manway with a 15-inch access opening for interior inspection and cleaning reach. Those three connection points - the flange, the 18-inch threaded/vented fitting, and the manway - are usable as shipped, but match your gaskets and seals to your media and confirm the threaded fitting size and flange pattern against your plumbing before you order. Use the Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide to confirm 5,500 gallons matches your draw-down and freeboard requirements; double-wall tanks need their freeboard worked out carefully, which the Snyder double-wall freeboard sizing guide walks through against ASTM D1998.

The mistake to avoid

The common error on a double-wall XLPE tank this size is treating it like a single-wall water tank. The interstitial space between the two walls is part of the design, not dead volume to fill, and the freeboard math is different. The 1.5 SG rating tells you the wall can carry denser-than-water contents, but it does not by itself qualify the tank for any specific chemical service. The vapor-saturated headspace is also where wall thickness matters most on tall tanks, covered in the vapor-saturated headspace wall-thickness guide. For buried or fire-reserve applications, see the cathodic disbondment testing notes and the fire-water reservoir design guide.

Freight

This tank ships LTL freight from the Snyder plant in Lincoln, Nebraska, quoted live to your ZIP. At this size and weight it moves as a dedicated LTL load, so an accurate destination ZIP and a note on whether you have a forklift or need liftgate and limited-access delivery make a real difference to the rate. Get your number from the Freight Cost Estimator, or call us at 866-418-1777 and we will quote the crosslinked double-wall XLPE tank to your site and confirm fitting details before it leaves Nebraska.
