The Snyder Industries 60 Gallon ASTM XLPE Double Wall Tank (SKU 5680002N42) is a self-contained, double-wall containment unit: a crosslinked polyethylene inner tank held inside an outer wall that captures any leak from the primary, so a spill is caught without a separate concrete dike or poly basin. It holds 60 gallons in a compact 26 x 26 inch footprint at 41 inches tall, which makes it a fit for tight equipment rooms and indoor installs where floor space is the constraint. The shell is molded in Natural White so you can read the liquid level through the wall.

Will it work for your job

This is a crosslinked linear polyethylene (XLPE) tank rated to a specific gravity of 1.9, which is the figure to check against your liquid before anything else. That rating is already at the top of the XLPE structural range on the double-wall line - if your fluid runs denser than water, this rating is the upgrade you would otherwise shop for, not a tank to trade up from. Full of water (SG 1.0) the contents weigh about 500 lb; loaded to the full 1.9 rating the contents reach roughly 951 lb. Engineer the pad and any equipment stand to the 951 lb worst case, not the 500 lb water figure - a foundation sized for water will be under-built for any dense fluid this tank is rated to hold. If you are unsure how that math lands for your fluid, run it through the Tank Sizing Calculator or read the Tank Sizing Guide.

Fittings, monitoring, and clearance

The tank carries a 14-inch PE threaded/vented fitting at the top and a manway with an 11-3/8-inch access opening for fill, inspection, and cleanout. The XLPE wall rating covers the shell, not the elastomers - confirm the gasket and seal materials at the manway lid and the threaded bulkhead are compatible with YOUR fluid, since that seal surface is the most common field failure point on double-wall poly tanks. Because the top fittings sit at roughly 41 inches, check overhead clearance for the manway lid swing and the fill connection if you are dropping this into a low equipment room. The real payoff of the double wall is the interstitial space between the inner and outer shells: it lets you check visually or with instrumentation for a primary-tank leak before product ever reaches the floor, which is the whole reason to pay the double-wall premium over a single-wall tank plus a separate basin. See the technical drawing on this page for exact fitting placement and the dimensioned layout before you plumb anything in.

The mistake to avoid

The biggest error on a double wall XLPE tank is treating the freeboard like usable volume. Crosslinked tanks have a defined fill line, and dense or thermally active fluids need headroom above the working level for expansion - filling to the brim is how operators get overflow and stressed fittings. Confirm your fluid's density sits at or below 1.9 and leave the freeboard alone. For the engineering behind freeboard on Snyder's double-wall line, the Snyder Captor double-wall freeboard sizing guide (ASTM D1998) walks through it, and the vapor-saturated headspace wall-thickness guide covers where these tanks tend to wear first. If the outer wall will ever sit against buried steel, the cathodic disbondment testing reference is worth a read.
