Snyder Industries 35 Gallon Sulfuric Acid Double Wall Tank

A drum's worth of acid, contained

Thirty-five gallons is a drum, and this is what a drum of sulfuric acid looks like when it is stored properly: in a tank built for the liquid, with secondary containment moulded around it instead of a tray on the floor. Snyder names this tank for sulfuric acid and builds it in the resin it specifies for that service; we repeat the name and add nothing to it. The acid concentration, the temperature it is dosed at and whether it is diluted on site are the three things that decide whether this is the right tank, and none of them is on this page, so tell us before you order. It goes in a pH correction room, a boiler feed treatment corner, a small water plant, a lab, or beside a metering pump anywhere a drum and a bund used to be. Placing it

At 22 inches square and 45 lb this is a one-person job: it rides a hand truck through a standard door and sits on any flat, continuous, level floor that carries the whole base. Do not leave it on a wooden pallet or shim one corner; the inner and outer walls are designed to be supported evenly. Keep a clear margin around it for the lid, the pump suction and a wash-down. Secondary containment only works if the outer tank is kept empty and inspected, so put the interstitial check on the operator's rounds. What to check before you buy

1. The liquid. Sulfuric acid, per Snyder's name for the tank. Confirm the concentration and temperature with us, and check the entry in our chemical compatibility guide for the resin.
2. The opening. A 6 inch threaded vented lid: enough to fill from a carboy or a small hose and to pass a suction line and a level float. It is a lid, not a bulkhead; the outlet and any fittings are decided with us at order time, and Snyder's drawing, linked under Technical Drawing on this page, shows where they go.
3. The temperature. Snyder's limit is 120 F. Concentrated acid heats when diluted; dilute into water, not water into acid, and let it cool before it goes in the tank.
4. The pad. Small as it is, a full tank is over a quarter ton. The concrete pad sizing guide is overkill for this size, but the principle holds: flat, continuous, level.

The tank ships LTL at freight class 175 from Snyder's plant in Marked Tree, Arkansas, 22 by 22 by 36 inches on a pallet.
