Where it fits
A thousand gallons is the size a household on a well, a small irrigation system or a shop wash-down supply usually lands on, and this is the shape that fits most of those sites: a 64 inch circle on the pad and a top you can reach from a short step ladder. The base needs a flat, level, continuous surface; because it carries 12510 lb at full rating, a concrete pad or well compacted gravel is the right foundation, not blocks or pallets. At 80 inches the manway clears a standard door header and sits under most eaves, which is why this shape goes where the taller column will not. What goes in it
Water, rainwater, liquid fertilizer and the common farm and treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads. Keep the contents below 120 F and below 1.5 times the weight of water. Heavier liquids, which include some concentrated fertilizers and acids, belong in the heavy duty version of this shell, rated to 1.9 specific gravity; the options above the price list it in blue and in black. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the side wall. Your valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight into it. Turn the tank so the outlet faces the pipe run before the first fill, and support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top, wide enough to fill from a hose or a pump, to drop a float in and to get a brush inside. The vent lets air out as you fill and in as you draw down; never plug it.
