Where the short tank wins

Under a lean-to, a shed eave, a deck, a carport or a low barn ceiling, 66 inches of height is the difference between a tank that fits and one that does not. The same height lets you fill and inspect it standing on the ground, and it drops the centre of gravity, which helps on a site with wind. The trade is the 72 inch footprint: six feet of clear, flat, level floor the whole way round. Gravel with stones in it will print into the bottom of a full tank, so use a poured pad, a slab that is already there, or compacted gravel with a sand cap. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the sidewall. A 2 inch ball valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight in. Turn the valve to face the pipe run before you tighten it, and support the first length of pipe so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
2. Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top. It takes a fill hose, a pump line, a float switch and a brush for cleaning. The vent lets the tank breathe as the level moves; do not plumb it shut.
3. Liquid and temperature. Keep the contents at or below 1.5 specific gravity and 120 F. Heavier liquids need a heavy duty tank.

The tank ships LTL at freight class 400 from Norwesco's Hanford, California plant, upright, 72 by 72 by 66 inches and 174 lb; two people can walk it off the truck. At the tailgate, check the part number 44111B against the bill of lading, look over the sidewall and the bottom edge for transit damage, set it on the pad and fill it with water the first time before it carries anything else.
