When you pay for the heavy wall
Pick the heavy duty tank when the liquid is heavier than water or when the tank will work hard: a liquid fertilizer that runs well over water's weight, a brine or a salt solution, a treatment chemical, or a water tank you fill and drain daily for years. The 1.9 rating is the maximum density the tank is built for; a liquid at or near that figure puts the wall at the edge of what it is designed to carry, so tell us the liquid and the concentration and we will confirm the match. Setting it
A vertical tank needs a flat, level, continuous pad under the whole 64 inch diameter, with no gravel points and no lip. Full, this tank puts over 8300 lb of water, and more with a heavier liquid, on a circle five feet across, so the pad and what is under it matter more than the tank. Place the tank so the outlet faces the pump and the manway is reachable; a 1000 gallon tank is not moved once it is full. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the side wall. Your valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight into it. Support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top: wide enough to fill from a hose or a pump, drop a float in, and get a hand and a brush inside to clean.
