Chemical compatibility
This is a polyethylene tank rated to 1.9 specific gravity. Before you put any chemical into it, confirm the resin with us - whether it is cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) or high-density linear polyethylene (HDLPE) - because the two resins resist different chemicals and that distinction governs warranty on chemical service. Every fitting and gasket recommendation below comes from the OEM chemical-resistance chart and is concentration- and temperature-specific; verify your exact concentration and operating temperature against that chart, and against our individual chemical pages, before committing. The most common field failure on a chemical haul tank is the wrong gasket, so order gasket and fitting material to the chemical you are actually running.
The strong acids and oxidizers in the chart call for Viton gaskets: Hydrochloric Acid at 37% (PVC), Hydrofluoric Acid at 48% (PP/PVC), Hydrofluosilicic Acid at 26% (PP/PVC), Hydrogen Peroxide at 50% (PVC), Phosphoric Acid at 85% (PVC), Sodium Hypochlorite below 16.5% (PVC), and Sulfuric Acid at 98% (CPVC). Peracetic Acid at 30% steps up further to 316SS fittings with Aflas gaskets, and DEF at 32.5% uses 316SS with EPDM. Do not default the acids to the EPDM that covers the salts below.
The salts, glycols, and milder solutions run on EPDM gaskets, mostly with PVC fittings: Acetic Acid at 60% (PP/PVC), Aluminum Sulfate at 50%, Calcium Chloride at 40%, Ethylene Glycol at 100%, Ferric Chloride at 50%, Ferric Sulfate at 60%, Ferrous Sulfate at 20%, Magnesium Chloride at 30%, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate at 50%, Potassium Hydroxide saturated, Propylene Glycol (PP/316SS), Sodium Bisulfate (PVC/PP), Sodium Bisulfite (PVC/PP), Sodium Carbonate at 30%, Sodium Thiosulfate at 40%, Urea Solution at 50% (PP/PVC), Zinc Orthophosphate (PP/316SS), and Ozonated Water up to 10 PPM. The mistake to avoid
The single most common error on a tank like this is treating it as a water tank. The 1.9 SG rating is what lets it carry dense fertilizer blends and concentrated chemicals - downgrade to a lower-SG horizontal tank for that duty and you risk wall fatigue and failure under load. Just as important, do not load any chemical until the resin (XLPE vs HDLPE) is confirmed and your fitting and gasket materials match the chart above.
