The Norwesco 100 Gallon Portable Loaf Utility Tank in black is a low-slung polyethylene tank built to slide through standard doorways and ride low in the bed of a truck or trailer. At 20 inches wide it clears a standard doorway opening, and at 32 inches tall and 48 inches long it puts 100 gallons of capacity into a compact loaf footprint of 20 by 48 inches - the long, narrow shape that keeps the center of gravity low for fleet and farm transport. Made of polyethylene with a 1.5 specific gravity rating, this utility tank carries liquids meaningfully heavier than plain water. Norwesco molds it at four nationwide plants, so most ZIPs have a plant within regional LTL range.

Will it work for your job?

Start with weight, because that is what decides your mount and your vehicle. Filled with plain water this 100 gallon tank carries roughly 834 pounds of contents, and at its full 1.5 specific gravity rating it is built to hold up to 1,251 pounds of liquid. That 1.5 rating is the real buying reason over a plain water-only loaf tank: it gives you the density headroom to run product heavier than water, not just water. Size the load against your trailer or truck-bed rating, not just the tank's, and confirm your fill liquid's actual specific gravity stays at or under 1.5. Use the Tank Sizing Calculator to match contents weight to your platform, and the Tank Sizing Guide if you are deciding between this and a larger loaf or utility tank size.

Mounting and the mistake to avoid

The loaf body is engineered to be strapped down and fully supported across its flat underside - it is a portable utility tank, not a freestanding vertical, so it needs a continuous, level surface beneath it and secure tie-downs over the top. The most common mistake is treating the 1.5 specific gravity number as a license to load anything: 1.5 is the liquid-density ceiling, not a chemical-compatibility statement. Before you put anything other than water in it, verify your specific liquid against the manufacturer's chemical-resistance data and match your gasket material to that service. Verify the port and fitting threads against the technical drawing on this page, and check the exact dimensions there, before you plumb it. For DOT and agricultural-exemption questions on this style of tank, our guide on Norwesco loaf-style tanks and the 49 CFR 173.5 agricultural exemption walks through farm-fleet classification, and the Norwesco doorway tank sizing guide, 100 to 1000 gallon shows how this size compares across applications.

Freight and ordering

This utility tank ships LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP from the nearest Norwesco plant - Albertville, AL; Hanford, CA; Sheldon, IA; or Washington Court House, OH - so your freight cost depends on which plant is closest to you. Run your ZIP through the Freight Cost Estimator for a live LTL quote, or call 866-418-1777 and we will quote it for you and confirm the right loaf tank for your fleet. List price shown is before freight.
