Why a cradle tank instead of a leg tank
A leg tank carries its load on a few moulded feet; a cradle tank lies in a saddle that supports the lower half of the shell continuously, which is how a tank this size is meant to travel full on a road. The elliptical shape puts 1000 gallons in 55 inches of height, lower than a round tank of the same volume, so the centre of gravity stays down and the tank clears more. Growers use it as a nurse tank behind the planter, fertilizer dealers and custom applicators as the supply tank on a tender trailer, and contractors as a water tank on a flatbed. Full of water it carries 8340 lb on top of the 284 lb tank, which decides the trailer's axle rating before anything else. Strap over the shell into the cradle, never over the manway.
What goes in it
Liquid fertilizer, water and the common farm and treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed. Your valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight in. Support the valve and the first length of hose on the trailer so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top, wide enough to fill from a hose or a pump, drop a float in and get a brush inside.
