The Norwesco 500 gallon horizontal elliptical cradle tank, part number 40328, is a white polyethylene tank 82 inches long, 57 inches wide and 44 inches tall, weighing 154 lb empty. On a trailer, a skid or a truck
A cradle tank has no legs of its own, so it needs a cradle or a saddle frame that matches its underside before it can go anywhere. Ask us about the cradle when you order the tank so the two arrive together. At 82 by 57 inches it fits a tandem axle utility trailer or a flatbed, and at 44 inches tall it keeps the load low. Full of water the contents alone weigh close to 4200 lb, and more with fertilizer, so the trailer's axle rating, not the tank, is usually the limit; a pickup bed is the wrong place for this size when it is full. Strap it over the cradle, never over the manway.
What goes in it
Water, liquid fertilizer and the farm and treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 1-1/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed. Your valve, pump suction or hose adapter threads straight into it. Support the valve and the first length of hose so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
- Inlet. A second 1-1/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, so you can plumb a fill line or a return line without drilling the tank. If you do not need it, cap it; a capped spare port is worth having later.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top: wide enough to fill from a hose or a pump, to drop a float in, and to get a hand and a brush inside to clean.
