Where it goes and what it holds

Eleven thousand gallons is a bulk tank for a working plant: liquid fertilizer at a co-op or an applicator yard, process or wash water at a food or beverage plant, a chemical bulk tank behind a treatment works, a fire reserve for a remote facility, or a reuse reservoir collecting condensate and grey water. The heavy duty wall is what makes a column this tall safe with liquids denser than water, and the 3 inch outlet is what makes it practical to move that much liquid in a working day. The pad is an engineered slab: a full tank is more than forty five tons on a circle twelve feet across, and it has to be flat, continuous and level under the entire base. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the wall, with a 2 inch reducer so the same fitting takes either a 3 inch or a 2 inch line. Use the full 3 inch bore for truck loading or a fire pump; the 2 inch reducer suits a metered feed. Support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own within a foot of the wall, and put a flexible connector before the first rigid joint; a fourteen foot column of liquid moves the wall as it fills and empties, and rigid pipe will fight it.
2. Manway. A 22 inch threaded vented manway on top, large enough for a float valve, a submersible pump or a mixer shaft, and for entry under a confined space permit. Leave the vent clear so air can move as the level changes, and keep the lid on.
3. Extra ports and the drawing. Only the one outlet comes installed; a fill port, an overflow or a return means extra bulkhead fittings we quote with the tank. Norwesco's drawing, linked under Technical Drawing on this page, shows the outlet height, the manway and the base profile.

A tank this size travels on a flatbed as an oversize load and is set with a crane or a large telehandler with straps, never dragged; have the equipment and the pad ready for the delivery date.
