The 1.5 grade record and what fits inside it

Read the grade line first, because on this record it is the cell that decides the purchase. The specific gravity cell reads 1.5 and the maximum contents cell reads 150120 lb. Between them they describe the buyer: someone storing a bulk liquid at plant scale whose weight per gallon sits comfortably inside that ceiling. The sheet supplies water as the reference at 100080 lb for a full shell, so an ordinary water duty leaves this vessel a long way inside its published figures, and a denser liquid is a calculation to run against the contents cell before anything is ordered.

What the sheet does not say is as important as what it does. There is no application cell, no liquid named, no process described and no chemistry of any kind on this record. It publishes a shell, a grade line, a ceiling, one port, one opening, a temperature limit of 120 F / 48 C and a warranty cell reading three year. Anything past that list is a specification you write with your liquid supplier's data in front of you, and a description that invented the rest would be doing you harm rather than a favour.

The honest limitation here is access. At 193 inches the manway is sixteen feet in the air and this record publishes no ladder, no platform and no attachment point at all. Getting a person safely to that opening is a separate design and a separate purchase, and it is much cheaper to solve while the tank is still lying on a trailer than after it is standing full.

Everything downstream starts at the bulkhead

  • The draw-off is a 3 inch PP female NPT bulkhead fitting, with no reducer named on this record, so the suction side is a 3 inch design from the wall outward and the pump is chosen to suit the port rather than the other way round.
  • With a full shell the liquid column stands 193 inches above that fitting, so a pump set beside the tank starts flooded. Short run, rising to the pump, no low loop to trap air between transfers.
  • The same column of liquid is what loads the gasket, so the weight of a full 3 inch line goes on an external stand. The bulkhead is a sealed penetration through a poly wall and it is not a pipe support.
  • The top opening is a 22 inch threaded vented manway. The vent is working equipment, not a detail: it is what admits air while the pump pulls, and covering it is how a shell gets drawn inward.
  • The second port people expect is not on this sheet; the inlet row prints a dash, which means one published port and a manway that doubles as the fill route unless you add something.

The install specific on this one is the union. Put a breakable joint in the line immediately outside the bulkhead, before the first valve. On a vessel that holds 100080 lb of water, whether a future repair means an hour with a wrench or a week of draining, storing and refilling is decided by that single fitting at installation time, and nobody has ever regretted putting it in.

Take the receiving look from the trailer deck rather than from the ground. Sight down the 141 inch top rim with your eye close to the plane of it and turn a full circle: a rim that has been strapped hard shows a flattened arc long before a tape measure would find it, and from the deck you are looking along the surface instead of up at it. Two minutes, no tools.

Then get it onto its prepared slab in a single lift, and leave the banding on until it is over the pad. Put the tank's part number on the maintenance log the day it lands; five years on, nobody remembers which shell it is.
