What it is for

Fifteen thousand gallons buried is a water reserve for a homestead or a small community system on hauled or harvested water, a fire reserve for a site without hydrants, or a large septic or holding tank where the soil report or the occupancy calls for it. What to check before you buy

1. The hole. The tank is 511 inches long, 101 wide and 107 tall before risers; the excavation is longer than most residential lots are wide, so confirm access for the excavator and the delivery truck first. Bed and backfill it to Norwesco's installation instructions: a polyethylene tank is backfilled with water in it, in lifts, so the wall is supported from both sides as the hole closes.
2. The manholes. Two, each with a 24 inch cover. Decide the burial depth first, because the risers that bring the covers to grade are ordered with the tank: Norwesco's 6 inch riser N-64410, one for each manhole.
3. Traffic. Tell us if anything heavier than a lawn mower will cross the tank. Burial depth, cover and traffic loading are decided together, and Norwesco's instructions set the limits.
4. Inlets, outlets and vent. The tank is supplied with the manway covers; the connections are cut and fitted on site to suit your plumbing, and the vent has to keep up with the fill and draw rates.

Have the excavation ready before the truck arrives so the tank is set once.
