Norwesco 1700 Gallon Black Vertical Storage Tank

Where it goes

This is a household or small farm size: a reserve for a well that runs slow in summer, a hauled water supply, a rainwater cistern on a barn roof, stock water for a pasture, or a fertilizer tank by the loading pad. At 74 inches it goes under most barn eaves and lean-tos, and the low centre of gravity suits an open, windy site. The trade is the footprint: 87 inches is over seven feet of flat, level, continuous floor, and a full tank puts over seven tons on it, so a poured pad or an existing slab is the normal base. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the sidewall. A 2 inch ball valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight in. Dry-fit it facing the pipe run, tighten, and support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
2. Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top for the fill line, a float switch and a cleaning brush. Keep the vent clear so the tank breathes as the level moves.
3. Liquid and temperature. At or below 1.5 specific gravity and at or below 120 F. Heavier liquids belong in the heavy duty version below. Check anything other than water against polyethylene before the first fill.

At the tailgate, check the part number 40725 against the bill of lading, look over the sidewall and the bottom edge for transit damage, and fill it with water the first time before it carries anything else.
