1700 Gallon Vertical Liquid Storage Tank

Where it fits

Seventeen hundred gallons is a serious water reserve for a house on a well, a fire buffer for a remote property, or a day tank for irrigation and livestock on a working farm, and this shape keeps all of it under six and a half feet tall. It goes under a lean-to or a low shed roof, beside a single storey building, or on an exposed site where a tall column would catch the wind. The trade is the pad. The 87 inch base needs a flat, level, continuous surface a little more than seven feet across; because it carries 21267 lb at full rating, a concrete pad is the right foundation, and it must be flat across its whole width or the shell will sit on a ridge. What goes in it

Water, rainwater, liquid fertilizer and the common farm and treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads. Keep the contents below 120 F and below 1.5 times the weight of water. Heavier liquids belong in the heavy duty version of this same shell, rated to 1.9 specific gravity, which Norwesco makes in blue and in black; the options above the price list them. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the side wall. Your valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight into it. Turn the tank so the outlet faces the pipe run before the first fill, and support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
2. Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top, wide enough to fill from a hose or a pump, to drop a float in and to get a brush inside. The vent lets air out as you fill and in as you draw down; never plug it.

Shipping and receiving

The tank ships by LTL freight, 87 inches across and 74 inches tall on the trailer and 244 lb, from Norwesco's Lancaster, Ohio or Sheldon, Iowa plant, whichever is nearer. At seven feet across it takes the full width of the trailer and a wide spot at your gate, so tell us if the delivery truck has a tight approach.
