200 Gallon Vertical Liquid Storage Tank

Where it goes

Two hundred gallons on a 30 inch circle is the size where a vertical tank stops being a drum replacement and starts being a supply: a make-up or chemical feed tank in a plant room, a rinse tank on a wash bay, a water or fertilizer tank in a barn or greenhouse, a holding tank in a well house, or a rainwater tank beside a shop. The height is the number to check: 72 inches to the top of the tank plus room for the lid and a hose, measured to the lowest duct, light or header over the spot. The lid is above head height for most people, so plan a fill line or a pump, and a float or a sight line for the level. Thirty inches is a few inches wider than a standard doorway; most double doors and every roll-up door take it upright. A tall tank wants a level floor. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the side wall. A 2 inch ball valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight in. Dry-fit the valve so the handle clears the wall, seal the threads, and support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own; a 2 inch valve with a hose on it is more weight than a tank wall should carry.
2. Lid. An 8 inch threaded vented lid. Wide enough for a hose, a float switch or a small pump inlet; the vent lets air in as the tank drains so the walls are never pulled inward. Fit the float and the fill line before the tank is in its corner, while you can still reach the top from a step.
