The Norwesco 225 Gallon Black Horizontal Leg Tank (SKU 40678) is a 225-gallon horizontal leg tank built in black polyethylene and rated to 1.5 specific gravity. It measures 49 inches long, 38 inches wide, and 41 inches tall, with a 38.0 x 49.0-inch footprint. The integrated legs give it a stable, self-supporting stance, which is why this style is a go-to for skid mounts, applicator setups, and pickup-bed transport where a free-standing horizontal tank earns its keep. As a haul tank, it is rated for water, DEF (diesel exhaust fluid), and urea or fertilizer solutions, and the black resin blocks light to help slow algae growth in stored liquids.

Will it work for your application?

Sizing is where most leg-tank mistakes happen, so run your numbers against the tank's ratings. Full of water, this tank carries roughly 1,876 lb. Because it is rated to 1.5 specific gravity, its maximum rated contents weight climbs to 2,815 lb at full fill with a denser liquid. That spread matters: a skid, trailer, or truck bed sized only for water weight will be badly underbuilt if you later run a heavier fluid. Confirm your mounting structure, tie-downs, and axle rating against the heavier 2,815 lb figure before you load it. The 38 x 49-inch footprint and 41-inch height should be checked against your bed rails, frame, or containment pad. Use the Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide to match capacity, weight, and footprint to your rig. This listing does not specify a fixed fitting package, so confirm bulkhead, outlet, and vent locations against the technical drawing on this page or with us before ordering.

Chemical compatibility

This tank is polyethylene (the resin is HDLPE-marked but should be confirmed - verify HDLPE versus XLPE with us before committing it to chemical service) and is rated to 1.5 specific gravity. That 1.5 rating is the gate: it sets which chemicals this specific tank is rated to hold. The following are compatible with a 1.5-SG polyethylene tank when paired with the correct fitting and gasket materials, per the OEM chemical-resistance chart, which is always concentration- and temperature-specific - check your exact conditions before ordering:

Two of those deserve a field note. DEF needs 316 stainless fittings, not brass or carbon steel, or you will contaminate the fluid - if you searched for a black horizontal tank to haul DEF, this size fits the job. Urea solution is the same family and follows the same EPDM gasket rule. Full chemical lists, concentrations, and our compatibility tool live at our chemical compatibility resource.

Chemicals that need a heavier tank

Several common chemicals exceed what a 1.5-SG tank should hold and require a 1.9 specific-gravity tank instead. Do not put these in this tank. They include Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid, Phosphoric Acid, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Hypochlorite (bleach), Sodium Thiosulfate, Sulfuric Acid, and Zinc Orthophosphate. Note that several of these also need Viton or Aflas gaskets rather than EPDM - another reason to confirm the full spec with us. If your job involves any of these, ask about the 1.9-SG version before you buy, because matching the tank to the fluid's density is the single most expensive mistake to get wrong.

Freight

This is an LTL freight item, quoted live to your ZIP code. Stock ships from ten Norwesco plants across CA, GA, IA, MN, NY, OH, OK, TX, UT, and WA - Fairfield, TX; Griffin, GA; Hanford, CA; Owego, NY; Shawnee, OK; Sheldon, IA; St. Bonifacius, MN; Tooele, UT; Washington Court House, OH; and Washougal, WA - so most regions get a relatively short haul from the nearest plant. Get a real number for your address with the Freight Cost Estimator, or call 866-418-1777 and we will quote it and confirm the right tank for your liquid.
