The Norwesco 225 Gallon Horizontal Leg Tank (SKU N-40299) is a white polyethylene horizontal leg tank built for portable transport and applicator work. Its integral support legs hold the tank stable on a trailer, skid, or flatbed, and the 1.5 specific-gravity rating means it is engineered to haul liquids up to 1.5 times the density of water. Filled with water this 225-gallon tank carries about 1,876 lb; loaded to its maximum rated contents it is built for roughly 2,815 lb of liquid. That weight ceiling is the number that tells you whether your intended liquid fits this tank.

Will it work for your job

This is a transport-oriented horizontal tank, so the support legs and the rated weight matter more than footprint. Use the full-water weight of 1,876 lb and the 2,815 lb maximum rated contents to confirm your trailer, hitch, and frame can carry a loaded tank before you fill it. The math is worth checking yourself: at the 1.5 SG rating, 1,876 lb of water times 1.5 equals the roughly 2,815 lb maximum rated contents, so any liquid up to 1.5 g/cc fills the tank without exceeding its weight ceiling. The only OEM fitting recorded on the technical drawing is a 60002 lid (see the technical drawing on this page for the lid layout); all chemical-service fittings noted below are buyer-supplied to match the liquid you choose. If you are matching this to a sprayer or nurse setup, run your gallons and liquid density through our Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide so you size around real loaded weight, not just gallon capacity. For farm-fleet transport context, the guides on Norwesco applicator and leg tanks for fertilizer and portable utility tanks and the agricultural-exemption DOT scope walk through how the rules apply to leg tanks in agricultural use.

Chemical compatibility

This tank is polyethylene with a 1.5 specific-gravity rating. The resin is recorded as HDLPE but is unconfirmed, so confirm HDLPE versus XLPE before putting it into chemical service. At the 1.5 SG rating it is suited to a range of fertilizer and treatment chemicals, each with its own fitting and gasket pairing: Acetic Acid at 60% (PP/PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets, acetic acid compatibility), Aluminum Sulfate at 50% (PVC, EPDM, aluminum sulfate), Calcium Chloride at 40% (PVC, EPDM, calcium chloride), DEF at 32.5% (316SS fittings, EPDM, DEF), Ferrous Sulfate at 20% (PVC, EPDM, ferrous sulfate), Magnesium Chloride at 30% (PVC, EPDM, magnesium chloride), Sodium Carbonate at 30% (PVC, EPDM, sodium carbonate), Urea Solution at 50% (PP/PVC, EPDM, urea solution), and Ozonated Water up to 10 PPM (PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets; routed through our master chemical compatibility index). Because several of these are fertilizer-blend liquids, the guide on fertilizer-blend tank stratification and mixing protocol is worth reading before you load and haul. Always match concentration and temperature against the OEM chemical-resistance chart, which is concentration- and temperature-specific, before committing a load.

Chemicals that need a higher-SG tank

Some chemicals call for a heavier 1.9 specific-gravity tank rather than this 1.5 SG model. If your job involves Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid, Phosphoric Acid, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Hypochlorite, Sodium Thiosulfate, Sulfuric Acid, or Zinc Orthophosphate, step up to a 1.9 SG tank and match fittings and gaskets accordingly (several of these, including hydrochloric acid, sodium hypochlorite, and sulfuric acid, require Viton gaskets and CPVC or PVC fittings). Spec it right the first time rather than under-rating the tank: use the Tank Sizing Guide or call 866-418-1777 to spec the 1.9 SG equivalent, and browse the full chemical compatibility reference for the specifics on each.
