The Norwesco 425 Gallon Horizontal Leg Tank in White is a self-supporting polyethylene haul tank built for fertilizer, water, and approved chemical transport where the load has to ride low and stay stable. The integrated leg-tank base lets it sit flat on a truck bed, skid, or trailer without a separate cradle, and the 1.5 specific gravity rating means it carries solutions denser than water up to the limits below. This is the Norwesco horizontal leg tank size farmers and applicators reach for when 425 gallons needs to move down the road.

Will it work for your load?

Capacity is 425 gallons in white polyethylene, rated to 1.5 specific gravity. Plan around the weight, not just the volume: filled with plain water this tank carries about 3,544 lb, and at its maximum rated contents it reaches roughly 5,317 lb. Confirm your truck, trailer, or skid frame is rated for that gross load before you fill, and check your axle ratings and DOT classification for over-the-road use. If you are unsure which footprint and capacity match your spreader rig or nurse-trailer, run the numbers through our Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide. For dimensions, leg spacing, and fitting locations, see the technical drawing on this page.

Chemical compatibility

This is an HDLPE tank rated to 1.5 specific gravity. Because the resin designation carries a question mark in our data, confirm whether your unit is HDLPE or XLPE before putting it into chemical service, and always cross-check against the OEM chemical-resistance chart for your exact concentration and temperature — that chart is the controlling document, not this page. Match your fitting and gasket materials to the chemical, not just the tank. At a 1.5 SG rating, this tank handles the following at the concentrations shown: Acetic Acid (60%, PP/PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets, see acetic acid), Aluminum Sulfate (50%, PVC, EPDM, aluminum sulfate), Calcium Chloride (40%, PVC, EPDM, calcium chloride), DEF (32.5%, 316SS fittings, EPDM, DEF), Ferrous Sulfate (20%, PVC, EPDM, ferrous sulfate), Magnesium Chloride (30%, PVC, EPDM, magnesium chloride), Sodium Carbonate (30%, PVC, EPDM, sodium carbonate), Urea Solution (50%, PP/PVC, EPDM, urea solution), and Ozonated Water (up to 10 PPM, PVC, EPDM — covered on our general chemical-compatibility resource below). Full data lives on our chemical compatibility resource, concentration- and temperature-specific.

The mistake to avoid: under-rating the tank for your chemical

The most common error on a leg tank like this is loading a chemical that needs a heavier tank. At its 1.5 SG rating this unit is not approved for higher-density services — each of the following requires a 1.9 specific gravity tank, and the seal material matters as much as the rating. Running EPDM gaskets: Ethylene Glycol (PVC), Ferric Chloride (PVC), Ferric Sulfate (PVC), Polyaluminum Chloride (PVC), Potassium Carbonate (PVC), Potassium Hydroxide (PVC), Propylene Glycol (PP/316SS), Sodium Bisulfate (PVC/PP), Sodium Bisulfite (PVC/PP), Sodium Thiosulfate (PVC), and Zinc Orthophosphate (PP/316SS). Stepping up to Viton seals: Hydrochloric Acid (PVC), Hydrofluoric Acid (PP/PVC), Hydrofluosilicic Acid (PP/PVC), Hydrogen Peroxide (PVC), Phosphoric Acid (PVC), Sodium Hypochlorite (PVC), and Sulfuric Acid (CPVC); and Peracetic Acid needs 316SS fittings with Aflas seals. If your application is one of these, order the 1.9 SG version of this tank rather than forcing this one to do a job it is not built for — call 866-418-1777 and we will spec the right rating, fittings, and gaskets for your chemical. For fertilizer-blend work, our guides on applicator and leg tanks for fertilizer and blend-tank stratification are worth a read, and the DOT classification breakdown for farm-fleet use covers the over-the-road rules.

This tank ships LTL freight from the nearest Norwesco plant to you — Fairfield, TX; Griffin, GA; Lancaster, OH; St. Bonifacius, MN; or Tooele, UT — with freight quoted live to your ZIP. Get an exact number with our Freight Cost Estimator, or call 866-418-1777 and we will route it from the closest plant to keep your transit and cost down.
