A 500 gallon low profile holding tank that slides under a job shack

The Norwesco 500 gallon job shack holding tank, part number 44643, is a white polyethylene tank 130 inches long, 52 inches wide and only 23 inches tall, weighing 201 lb empty. It is built to go under a construction office trailer, a job shack or a portable restroom unit and hold the waste from the sinks and toilets until the pump truck comes, with no digging and no slab. It is rated for liquids up to 1.5 specific gravity, which covers water and waste water; 500 gallons of water weighs 4170 lb. It has an 8 inch threaded vented lid on top. The resin is FDA compliant per Norwesco, the service limit is 130 F, and Norwesco backs it with a 3 year limited full replacement warranty. It ships LTL at NMFC 156600-03.

Setting up a site office? Call 866-418-1777 with the trailer's skid height and the head count, or get freight to your ZIP and add it to your cart above.

Under a trailer, above ground

The 23 inch height is the reason this tank exists. A standard septic or holding tank is too tall to go under a trailer on skids, so it ends up beside the trailer in the way of trucks, or in a hole that has to be dug and later filled. This one slides under the floor, the drain from the trailer drops into the lid, and the pump truck hose reaches it from the side. Set it on flat, compacted ground or a few sheets of plywood so the full length is supported; a holding tank is above ground service only and is not built to be buried or driven over. Five hundred gallons is a working week or two for a small crew's office, depending on the fixtures; size the tank to the pump out interval you can actually get from the hauler, not the other way round. Our field guide to the Norwesco low profile tank series covers setup, compliance and procurement, and if the tank will travel between sites with liquid in it, the DOT classification guide explains what applies on the road.

Holding waste, or holding water

Waste water from a job shack is the normal duty. The same tank also works as a low profile fresh water supply or a temporary water reserve where height is the constraint; the resin is FDA compliant per Norwesco, and our guide to fire water reservoir design for rural and remote sites covers sizing and freeze protection for a water reserve. Keep the contents under 130 F. If your inspector asks for listing paperwork on a holding tank, tell us the jurisdiction and we will send what Norwesco holds for this model before you order. For the volume itself, use the tank sizing calculator and the tank sizing guide.

Openings and fittings

  1. Lid. An 8 inch threaded vented lid on top. The trailer drain usually enters here or through a fitting added beside it; the pump truck draws through the same opening.
  2. Outlet. Norwesco lists no factory outlet fitting on this tank. If you want a bulkhead fitting for a drain line or a pump out port, tell us the size when you order and we will confirm what the wall takes. Dry fit before tightening; over tightening distorts the gasket and is the usual cause of a weep.
  3. Drawing. Norwesco's drawing for this tank, linked under Technical Drawing on this page, shows the lid position and the flat wall areas for fittings.

Sizes nearby

For a smaller crew or a shorter pump out interval, the 300 gallon low profile job shack holding tank is the same idea in a shorter body.

Shipping and receiving

The tank ships LTL at NMFC 156600-03, 130 by 52 by 23 inches and 201 lb, from the nearer of Norwesco's plants in Fairfield, Texas and St. Bonifacius, Minnesota. The listed price is before freight; the freight cost estimator gives the lane cost to your ZIP, or request a written quote for a job that needs paperwork. Two people can carry it off the truck. At the tailgate, check the part number against 44643 on the bill of lading, look the shell over for transit damage, and fill it with water the first time to check the lid and any fitting you added before it goes into service.
