The Norwesco 5000 gallon black vertical storage tank, part number 40164B, is a flat bottom polyethylene tank 102 inches in diameter and 152 inches tall, weighing 986 lb empty. Where it goes
On a pad. A flat bottom tank needs a flat, continuous, level surface the full 102 inches across, with nothing under the base but concrete or compacted fines; a tank set on a few blocks or on a pad with a drain under it carries its weight on part of the base and the wall pays for it. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting low in the side wall, with a 2 inch reducer: run 3 inch pipe for a pump or a gravity feed that needs volume, or 2 inch off the reducer for a garden or stock line. Put a valve directly on the fitting, support the pipe on its own within the first few feet, and use a flexible connection to rigid pipe, because a full polyethylene tank grows a little and a rigid line fights it.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top, large enough to fill from a hose or a hauler's pipe, to drop a float valve or a level sensor in, and to get an arm and a brush inside. The vent lets air in and out as the level moves; do not seal it.
- The liquid. Water is the normal load. Polyethylene also handles most fertilizers and many common chemicals; confirm anything other than water against the material and keep its specific gravity under 1.5. Liquids heavier than that need the heavy duty version of this tank.

At 102 inches across and 152 inches tall it travels on a flatbed and needs a loader or several people at the site to stand it on the pad. At delivery, check the part number against 40164B on the bill of lading, walk round the wall and look at the base for transit damage, and fill it with water the first time before it holds anything else.
