Why a 30 degree cone, and why the heavy duty one
The cone angle decides how the tank behaves. A 30 degree cone drains faster and more completely than a 15 degree cone and gives up less height than a 45 degree cone, which makes it the usual pick for liquid fertilizer blending, chemical batching and any process where a heel left in the tank is a problem. What to check before you buy
- The stand. Norwesco pairs this tank with stand N-60358. The cone angle has to match the stand angle exactly; a 30 degree cone sits in a 30 degree stand and nothing else. We put both on one order. Our cone bottom tank stand compatibility matrix lists the pairings.
- The height. The tank is 148 inches tall on its own; in the stand the manway sits higher still, and the outlet sits up off the floor at the stand's height. Measure the ceiling, the fill line and the valve, pump or drum that has to fit under the outlet before the order, not after.
- The floor. A full 5500 gallon cone on a stand is a concentrated load on a small footprint. The stand needs a flat, level, continuous pad with no drain or joint under it, and the pad design is between you, your installer and the tank manufacturer's documentation.
- Outlet. A 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the bottom of the cone. A 3 inch valve threads straight in. Support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top, for filling, a level sensor and cleaning.
