The Norwesco 6000 Gallon 15 Degree Cone Bottom Tank in black is built for full-drain bulk chemical storage where you cannot leave product sitting on a flat floor. At 6,000 gallons in a 102 by 102 inch footprint and standing 195 inches tall, this closed-top cone tank carries a 1.5 specific gravity rating in its polyethylene wall, the figure that decides whether your chemical is a safe fit. The black exterior blocks light to slow algae and UV-driven degradation of stored product, and the 15-degree cone floor keeps solids and sediment moving toward the outlet for clean evacuation between batches.

Will it work for your application

Match your chemical to two numbers before you order: the 1.5 SG rating and the polyethylene resin. Filled with plain water this cone bottom tank weighs about 50,040 lb; rated to its 1.5 SG ceiling it can carry up to 75,060 lb of contents, which is exactly 1.5 times the water figure. That is the decision rule a chemical buyer applies: the 1.5 rating means the wall is engineered for contents up to 1.5 times water density, so your chemical's specific gravity must sit at or below 1.5. The cone stand and foundation under the tank must be engineered for that loaded 75,060 lb figure, not the water weight. Use the Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide to confirm the volume and standing height fit your bay, and plan layout with our tank top fitting placement guide. A cone tank always rides on a stand, so check the cone bottom tank stand compatibility matrix before committing. One caveat on the geometry: 15 degrees is the shallowest of the three cone angles, so for chemicals that settle heavily, such as ferrous sulfate, aluminum sulfate, or polyaluminum chloride, review the 15 vs 30 vs 45 degree selection guide to decide whether a steeper cone self-drains your slurry better. Refer to the technical drawing on this page for fitting locations and exact dimensions.

Chemical compatibility

This is a polyethylene tank rated to 1.5 specific gravity. The resin is recorded as HDLPE with a question mark, so confirm HDLPE versus XLPE for your specific chemical service before you order, because the two cross-link differently and that distinction can decide chemical fit. The tank wall being compatible is necessary but not sufficient: you must also spec the wetted fittings and gaskets in the listed material, which is the most common field failure point. At the 1.5 SG rating, the following are compatible per the OEM chemical-resistance chart, which is concentration- and temperature-specific: Acetic Acid at 60% (PP/PVC fittings, EPDM gasket), Aluminum Sulfate at 50% (PVC, EPDM), Calcium Chloride at 40% (PVC, EPDM), DEF at 32.5% (316SS fittings, EPDM gasket), Ferrous Sulfate at 20% (PVC, EPDM), Magnesium Chloride at 30% (PVC, EPDM), Sodium Carbonate at 30% (PVC, EPDM), Urea Solution at 50% (PP/PVC, EPDM), and Ozonated Water up to 10 PPM (PVC, EPDM). EPDM is the default gasket here, so verify each chemical, concentration, and operating temperature against the chemical-resistance chart before specifying.

Chemicals that need a higher-SG tank

Several common chemicals exceed what a 1.5 SG wall is rated to hold and require a 1.9 specific gravity tank instead, so do not store these in this tank. They include Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrochloric Acid (Viton gasket), Hydrofluoric Acid (Viton), Hydrofluosilicic Acid (Viton), Hydrogen Peroxide (Viton), Peracetic Acid (316SS, Aflas), Phosphoric Acid (Viton), Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Hypochlorite (Viton), Sodium Thiosulfate, Sulfuric Acid (CPVC, Viton), and Zinc Orthophosphate. For those chemicals, ask us about the same Norwesco 6000-gallon 15-degree cone bottom tank in a 1.9 SG rating so you stay on the right wall thickness. Cross-reference any chemical, concentration, fitting material, and gasket against our full Chemical Compatibility Database before specifying.
