Where it goes
A 6502 gallon black vertical is a common choice for a rural home or ranch water supply, a rainwater cistern fed from a large roof, an irrigation buffer, or a fire protection reserve on a site without hydrants. The tank is tall rather than wide: over sixteen feet high on a circle eight and a half feet across, so it needs sky overhead or a tall building, and a ladder or platform to reach the manway. What goes in it
Water, rainwater, liquid fertilizer and the common farm and treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles. At 1.5 specific gravity the heaviest full load is 81340 lb; anything denser than one and a half times water belongs in the heavy duty version, not this tank. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting with a 2 inch reducer, factory installed low in the wall. Take the reducer out for a 3 inch gravity feed or a pump suction; leave it in to plumb 2 inch. Support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top, wide enough to fill from a hose, drop a float in, and get a brush inside to clean. Never plug the vent.
