Norwesco's N-47618 holds 6502 gallons in a natural white shell the sheet gives as 102 inches across and 196 inches tall, the narrowest footprint at this capacity in the family. The material field reads Polyethylene (HDPE). The two weight fields disagree: empty weight reads 1407 lb and the ship weight is 1337 lb. Both are printed and the ship weight is the working figure. The crate field reads 196 inches by 102 inches by 102 inches. The specific gravity rating is 1.5 with the rating text "1.5 (Max 12.52 lbs/gal)", and the maximum contents figure is 81340 lb, where the same 6502 gallons of water at 8.34 pounds per gallon comes to 54227 lb. Strapping a narrow column that stands taller than the building

Everything about siting this tank comes out of one ratio: 196 inches of shell on a 102 inch base. That is the most volume this family will put on that small a floor, it is the reason somebody buys this record instead of one of the wide ones, and it is also why the restraint matters more here than anywhere else in the range. Deal with the anchors first and the plumbing afterwards. Band the shell to a wall, a structural frame or ground anchors before the first fill, use two bands outdoors, put them where they cannot creep down a tapering shoulder, and pull on both by hand once the tank has been full once and settled. Pipework is not restraint; a rigid line run between a fixed header and a tank that moves as it fills breaks the fitting rather than the wall. Underneath, build for continuous contact across the whole 102 inch circle, because all 81340 lb at the maximum contents figure this sheet publishes lands inside that circle and the moulded floor carries on what it touches and nothing else. A flat slab, a steel deck plate, or a compacted and screeded bed with a retained edge, level across the full span rather than level at the rim with a dip in the middle. No rails, no pallet, no shim under one side. Give it a fall away from the tank and leave working room at the outlet. Then measure the height twice, at the final position and at the lowest beam, door head or cable tray on the path in, because 196 inches upright is a different measurement from 196 inches lying on a trailer and the difference is discovered at the worst possible moment. Four of these records are the same tall shell and the sheet separates them by colour and by weight: this natural white one at 1337 lb crated, the black 47884 at 1490 lb, the black heavy duty 47620B at 1700 lb, and the blue N-47620, for which this sheet gives a height of 196 inches and no footprint or weight at all. The reducer at the base decides the pump

  • The outlet leads because it is the only plumbed connection the sheet names: a 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting with a 2 inch reducer at the base. The bulkhead through the wall is three inches; what the assembly presents to your pipe is two.
  • That is the number to design to. A pump and a suction line sized to the three, then throttled by the reducer a hand's width away, is the commonest way a bulk tank turns out slower than the drawing said it would be.
  • Make the joints up once with the right sealant and put a union immediately downstream. With a reducer there are already two joints near the shell, and every future valve change should happen without a wrench ever loading the bulkhead itself.
  • A 196 inch column gives the best standing head in this part of the range. Mount the pump below the base on its own footing with a short falling suction run and it stays flooded practically to the end of a draw; mount it level with the outlet and the last part of the tank becomes a prime problem every cycle. Fit a low-level cut-out regardless.
  • That head is also a load on the fitting. Keep the first joint flexible, carry the first valve on its own bracket off the pad, and let the tank move as it fills without any of that movement reaching the thread.
  • Access is a 16 inch threaded vented manway with the lid size field agreeing at 16 inches, at the top of a shell 196 inches tall. A fixed ladder or a platform is part of this install, not an afterthought; it is the item most often skipped on a tall tank and the reason inspections quietly stop happening.
  • The vent is in that manway lid and it is the only air path the shell has. Pull liquid out of a tall narrow tank against a blocked vent and it pulls its own wall in and does not recover. Check it whenever the lid is off and replace a damaged one before the next draw rather than after it.
  • The sheet names no inlet, so the fill goes in through the manway. Run a fill line up the outside and down inside the shell to a coupling at working height, and keep the ladder for inspection rather than for daily filling.

The service limit the sheet publishes is 120 F / 48 C. The warranty field on this record reads only "3 Year", with none of the detail some sheets in this family carry, so ask us and we will get Norwesco's current terms in writing rather than filling the gap ourselves. In a space where machinery moves, put something solid between the traffic and the base. The shell will take a knock; the bulkhead at the bottom of a 196 inch column will not.

Where the floor is spoken for and the roof is not

This shell is bought for buildings and yards where the square footage ran out before the volume did: bulk storage in a plant with equipment on every wall and one clear corner; process water and dilution make-up beside a line that runs continuously; standing reserve in a pump house or tank farm where the tanks stand shoulder to shoulder; irrigation or stock water where the pad is a small poured square and the yard belongs to vehicles; wash-down supply at a shop with a hard stand and no room to spare; collection and buffering in a reuse arrangement, where the industrial water reuse topology guide sets out which stage a vessel this size belongs to and what has to sit on either side of it. Where the tank is a reserve that has to be there on the worst day of the year rather than a supply that turns over every week, read the fire-water reservoir design guide before the size is fixed, because standing volume and usable volume are not the same number and only one of them turns up when it is wanted. The sheet gives a specific gravity rating of 1.5 with the rating text "1.5 (Max 12.52 lbs/gal)" and a maximum contents figure of 81340 lb, and nothing further about contents is claimed here.
