Where a flat bottom utility tank earns its place

Buy this shape when height is the constraint. A service truck that needs water for a pressure washer, a landscape crew carrying water to new plantings, a small farm hauling water to stock, a cabin that collects rainwater into a tank under the deck, a shop that keeps a batch of coolant mixed: all of them want a tank that stays under something. At 17 inches tall and 42 by 27 inches on the floor, the tank rides under a bed cover and leaves the rest of the bed for tools. Full of water it carries about 570 lb on top of the 42 lb tank, which is well inside a half ton pickup's payload but worth checking on a UTV. Strap it down flat with the straps bearing on the tank body, not the lid. On the ground, set it on a continuous surface: a flat bottom tank spans nothing, so a gap under the middle puts the load on the edges. What goes in it

Water first, for stock, dust, washing and irrigation. Polyethylene also handles most liquid fertilizers and many common chemicals; check anything other than water in our chemical compatibility guide before the first fill, and keep the contents under 120 F. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 1 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed. A 1 inch ball valve, a hose barb or a garden hose adapter threads straight in. A 1 inch outlet gravity drains a tank this size at a useful rate; a pump draws through it without an adapter.
2. Lid. A 5 inch threaded vented lid on top, sized for a hose nozzle and a jug, not for a hand. The vent lets air in as the tank empties.
