Nine feet of tank: what it gives and what it asks
At 107 inches, the water surface of a full tank stands nearly nine feet above the outlet. That head runs a gravity line a long way across a property, holds a pump flooded, and feeds troughs, drip zones and wash stations well below the pad without a switch, which is why this shape sells to properties with no power at the tank and to sites where the only free ground is a narrow strip beside a building. It also fits where a wide tank will not: through a double gate, down a side passage, into a corner of a pump house with a tall roof. The cost is everything a tall tank asks for, multiplied. Full, it carries more than three tons on a 46 inch circle nearly nine feet up, so it must be strapped or banded to structure or to anchors set in the pad before the first fill, and the pad must be flat, level, continuous, engineered and poured wider than the floor; the concrete pad sizing guide gives the framework. The manway is far out of reach from the ground, so fill through the inlet, put the level gauge low, and plan a safe platform for the yearly clean. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the wall. A 2 inch valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight in. Support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own so the fitting carries water, not hardware.
- Inlet. A 1-1/2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting for the fill line, a float valve or the overflow. Run the overflow to daylight away from the base.
- Manway. A 16 inch vented manway on top: wide enough to fill from a hose or a pump, drop a float in, and get a hand and a brush inside to clean. The vent lets air in and out as the level changes; never plug it.
