The mistake to avoid
Treat the two connection types differently. The polyethylene threaded lid seals on its threads, so snug it by hand-plus rather than cranking down and stressing the boss - poly threads are not metal. The flanged outlet is different: it seals against a gasket, so confirm the gasket material suits your fluid and torque the flange bolts evenly in a cross-pattern rather than pulling one side tight.
