Buy the C26 when the operator reads the level through the wall and the liquid does not mind light, and when the specification does not ask for cross-linked polyethylene, because at 175 gallons and 1.9 the linear wall already carries a dense liquid. The shell itself is the other reason: 175 gallons is more than three drums, and this molding holds them on a circle less than two and a half feet across, in a corner of a chemical room where a wider tank would block the aisle. Five and a half feet of tank on a 29 inch circle is top-heavy when empty, so it is strapped or chained to the wall before the first fill. Full at the rating it puts 2,773 pounds on that circle, more than a ton on a small footprint, so a slab or a rated steel stand carries it, flat and level so the tank does not rock on its fitting, with a tray or berm sized to the tank where the liquid is regulated; the concrete pad sizing guide is written for bigger tanks, but its full-contact rule is the one that matters here. Natural polyethylene passes light, so the level reads by eye and the liquid sees the sun; a liquid that light degrades wants the C34. The four 1008400 rows are one molding; the sheet separates them by resin and color and rates each on its own page. The 1012800C26 gives up 25 gallons to stand seven inches shorter on a 30 inch circle at 55 pounds, the tank for a shelf that stops just under five feet. The 1540400N42 goes the other way, 190 gallons on a 42 inch circle at 47 inches, a cross-linked wall by its name at this tank's own 60 pounds, for a floor with room and a ceiling without.

Air out, liquid in, on a tall narrow tank

• Vent and fill: the sheet lists no lid or manway field, and we print what it gives; tell us at order how the tank is filled and drawn down, and the top opening is specified to breathe it. A 175 gallon tank is filled from a drum pump, a tote, or a hose, and the opening passes the air a fill at that rate displaces; a pump drawing the tank down against a sealed top pulls a vacuum and caves a tall narrow wall first, so the opening is never closed tight. Fill down a dip tube or with the hose end below the rim so a dense liquid does not fall five feet and beat the headspace wall.
• Headspace: stop at the shoulder. A tall tank has a tall headspace band, and it is the band that vapor works on; through a natural wall it can be seen from outside, and it gets a look at every fill.
• Outlet: 1 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the base. Name the liquid at order and the fitting, gasket and bolting are matched to it, with a flexible connector to hard pipe and the valve supported on the stand, never hung on the wall.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

Five and a half feet of head is real pressure for a 1 inch fitting; it gravity-feeds a metering pump or a transfer line without help, and it is also why a rigid line bolted straight to the bulkhead is a mistake on this tank, because every bit of pipe movement goes into the wall at the point of highest pressure. Set the pump inlet below the outlet so it runs flooded to the last inch, and fit a low-level float so it never pumps air. Keep the top covered, the chemical's name on the wall, and the straps tight. A tank this size freezes through in a cold night outdoors, so it lives indoors, or the valve and line are traced and the tank is drained before a hard cold.
