The Snyder Industries 16500-gallon heavy-duty vertical storage tank is a purpose-built bulk water vessel for high-volume sites where a single large footprint beats a bank of smaller tanks. Molded in natural white polyethylene, this vertical storage tank holds 16,500 gallons and stands 257 inches tall on a square 142 x 142 inch footprint. If you are sizing a fire-water reservoir, a rural or municipal water supply, or a process-water buffer, the numbers below tell you whether this Snyder vertical tank fits your pad and your service.

Will it work for your site?

Full of water this tank weighs roughly 137,610 lb, so pad and soil-bearing design is the first thing to settle, not an afterthought. The shell itself carries a 1.9 specific-gravity rating, meaning it is built to hold contents up to about 261,459 lb at maximum rated density. Both of those are filled-service loads for foundation design; neither is a delivery-handling figure, since the tank arrives and is offloaded empty and your crane or forklift spec is set by the empty shell, not the filled weight. For plain water at 1.0 SG you have substantial margin. That 1.9 rating is also a genuine buying advantage: this same shell supports a future conversion to denser fluids up to 1.9 SG without swapping the tank, headroom a water-only 1.0-SG vessel does not give you. Run your volume and refill math through the Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide, and because nominal and usable volume are not the same number, the Snyder freeboard sizing guide shows how ASTM D1998 freeboard and thermal expansion affect the volume you can actually use out of a nominal 16,500 gallons. If this feeds a private fire-protection stack, our fire-water reservoir design guide walks the NFPA 22 sizing discipline.

Fittings and access

Per the technical drawing on this page, this tank is configured with a manway providing 15-inch access, an 18-inch polyethylene threaded/vented fitting, a 12 x 26 inch fitting, a flange, and a flat fitting landing. The 15-inch manway is your route for inspection and cleanout, and the vented fitting matters at this scale: a bulk tank filling and draining this fast needs proper venting and overflow routing so you never pull a vacuum or pressurize the shell during gravity fill. Confirm every fitting location and elevation against the technical drawing before you set plumbing and vent runs, because at this height and weight a plumbing change after the tank is placed is expensive. Spec your bolt-up gaskets, bulkhead seals, and thread sealant to the flange and fitting sizes shown on the drawing, rated for your service fluid and operating temperature, before you commit to the tie-ins.

Pad and freight before it ships

A tank this size lives or dies on its foundation. Size the pad to the full-water load, not the empty tank, and design it as a proper above-ground slab; our concrete pad sizing guide lays out the ACI 360R-10 framework and where the ACI 318 boundary falls. If this tank is part of a grey-water, rainwater, or condensate reuse train, the water reuse topology guide covers how to sequence storage and treatment stages.

This vertical storage tank ships LTL freight from the Snyder plant in Lincoln, NE, quoted live to your ZIP code. Because of its size and weight, freight is a real line item worth pricing early. Get a number with the Freight Cost Estimator or call us at 866-418-1777 to plan delivery, offloading, and site access for a tank of this scale.
