The Snyder Industries 2600 Gallon Black XLPE Cone Bottom Tank is built for bulk chemical storage that needs full drain-out. Molded in crosslinked linear polyethylene (XLPE) and rated to a 1.5 specific gravity, this black cone tank stands 139 inches tall on a 90 by 90 inch footprint and holds 2,600 gallons. The cone-bottom geometry empties completely, which is what separates a real cone tank from a flat-bottom drum when you are dosing, settling, or cycling product. It ships from Snyder's plant in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Will this tank hold up in service?

XLPE is the heavier-duty resin of the two polyethylene families: the crosslinked molecular structure resists stress cracking and chemical attack better than standard HDPE, which is why it is specified for aggressive duty. The 1.5 specific gravity rating means this tank is engineered to hold contents up to 1.5 times the density of water. At full water the load is 21,684 pounds, and at the maximum rated 1.5 SG the contents alone reach 32,526 pounds. Plan your foundation, ring wall, or pad for that loaded weight, not the empty shell. A cone-bottom tank carries its load through a support stand rather than a flat base, so the design point is the stand's leg-bearing loads, not the 90 by 90 inch footprint average - the footprint area does not carry the weight, the legs do. This cone tank is not sold with pre-installed fittings - plan your bulkhead, outlet, and any vent or fill hardware separately and configure them to your wetted-material requirements. Chemical compatibility

This is an XLPE tank rated to 1.5 specific gravity. Crosslinked polyethylene resists a broad range of chemicals, but compatibility is always concentration- and temperature-specific, so verify every application against the OEM chemical-resistance chart before you commit product. A hard rule that comes before chemical name: any product whose specific gravity exceeds 1.5 is out of spec for this tank regardless of how well the resin resists it - check your product's SG, not just its name. At the 1.5 SG rating, this tank is suited to these chemicals at the concentrations and fitting/gasket pairings noted below:

  • Acetic Acid at 60% with PP or PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets
  • Aluminum Sulfate at 50% with PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets
  • Calcium Chloride at 40% with PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets
  • DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) at 32.5% - note this one requires 316 stainless steel fittings (not PVC or PP like the others) with EPDM gaskets, so budget for the stainless hardware
  • Ferrous Sulfate at 20% with PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets
  • Magnesium Chloride at 30% with PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets
  • Sodium Carbonate at 30% with PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets
  • Urea Solution at 50% with PP or PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets
  • Ozonated Water up to 10 PPM with PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets

The mistake to avoid: SG, not just chemical name

The number-one cone-bottom error is matching the resin to the chemical but ignoring specific gravity. This 1.5 SG tank is not rated for the denser concentrations of several common chemicals, each of which needs a higher-rated 1.9 SG tank: Ethylene Glycol (PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets), Ferric Chloride (PVC, EPDM), Ferric Sulfate (PVC, EPDM), Hydrofluosilicic Acid (PP or PVC fittings, Viton gaskets rather than EPDM), Polyaluminum Chloride (PVC, EPDM), Potassium Carbonate (PVC, EPDM), Potassium Hydroxide (PVC, EPDM), Propylene Glycol (PP or 316 stainless fittings, EPDM gaskets), and Sodium Thiosulfate (PVC, EPDM). At the concentrations we list, storing these in a 1.5 SG vessel overstresses the wall - step up to a 1.9 SG cone tank instead. When in doubt on a borderline application, call us before you order.
