A drum's worth, contained, in black

Thirty-five gallons is a drum, and this tank is what a drum of treatment chemical looks like stored properly: a vessel built for the duty with secondary containment moulded around it, instead of a drum standing in a tray. It goes beside a chemical feed pump in a water plant, a cooling tower corner, a boiler room, a pool plant room or a car wash, anywhere a small, steady dose is drawn from a tank that is topped up by hand or from a carboy. The black wall is the reason to pick this version over the white one: chemicals that break down in light keep their strength longer, and a water tank stays clear of algae. The trade is that you cannot read the level through the wall, so plan a float or a small transmitter through the lid from the start.

Placing it and keeping the containment honest

At 22 inches square and 45 lb this is a one-person job. It rides a hand truck through a standard door and sits on any flat, continuous, level floor that carries the whole base; do not leave it on a wooden pallet or shim one corner. Leave room around it for the lid, the suction line and a wash-down. Keep the outer tank dry and put a look between the walls on the operator's rounds; containment that nobody checks is a tray. Do not fill to the lid: the usable volume is less than the nameplate once freeboard and expansion are allowed for, and the freeboard sizing note for Snyder double wall tanks works through the arithmetic. What to check before you buy

1. The liquid. Polyethylene handles most treatment chemicals, fertilizers and brines. Check yours in our chemical compatibility guide and confirm the concentration with us. For sulfuric acid, Snyder makes a dedicated resin version of this shell, linked below.
2. The opening. A 6 inch threaded vented lid: fill from a carboy or a small hose, pass a suction line and a float. It is a lid, not a bulkhead; the outlet and any fittings are decided with us at order time, and Snyder's drawing, linked under Technical Drawing on this page, shows where they go.
3. The temperature. Snyder's limit is 120 F. For warm product or a tank in full sun, ask us about the crosslinked versions linked below.
4. The floor. Small as it is, a full tank is over a quarter ton. Flat, continuous, level.

The tank ships LTL at freight class 175 from Snyder's plant in Marked Tree, Arkansas, 22 by 22 by 36 inches on a pallet.
