What a returnable stainless tote has to survive

A tote that goes out and comes back lives a harder life than one that sits in a plant. It is lifted and set down at both ends of every trip, rides a truck deck strapped against the next unit, gets washed with whatever the wash bay uses, and is inspected by someone who did not fill it. Stainless suits that cycle because the surface takes hot water, caustic and steam without a lining to re-inspect, there is no cage to bend and condemn a good bottle, and a dent is a dent rather than a crack. The 42 by 48 inch footprint is the pallet module, so the totes pack on a trailer floor and in a rack without wasted space, and the 47.25 inch height keeps the manway reachable from the floor at both ends of the trip. Identical totes matter more than any single feature: one hose set, one wash procedure, one forklift setting, one spare valve on the shelf. If your product is water, fertilizer or a common chemical and the totes are not washed between loads, a polyethylene tote at a fraction of the weight will do the job; the 330 gallon Ultratainer tote is that option.

The body is 304 and the valve is 316, two grades that handle liquids differently, so check the product and the wash chemistry against both. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 2 inch 316 stainless ball valve, factory fitted low on the vessel. Closed and capped for every trip; check it before every lift. Carry one spare valve per fleet.
2. Inlet. A 2 inch access port on top for a closed fill at the plant. Confirm the thread form with us so every tote in the fleet takes the same adapter.
3. Manway. 22 inches, vented. The wash bay works through it, and the vent is the breathing path as the receiving site draws the tote down; keep it clear and inspect it at every return.
