The 446 between the 350 and the 550

The 446 is the one people arrive at by elimination rather than by aspiration, and there are two honest reasons to land here. The first is clear height. If something above the tote's position, a duct, a sprinkler branch, a shutter track or a mezzanine soffit, rules out the 71.25 inch vessel, the 446 puts almost a hundred more gallons on the same floor than the 350 does while staying a foot shorter than the 550. The second is reach. At 59.25 inches the 22 inch manway is high but not out of reach, which is a different daily proposition from a vessel you need a platform to open. What it is not is a compromise on floor efficiency, because the plan never changes: whichever of the three you buy, you commit the same 42 by 48 inches. Three 446s, a 350 and a 550

The top three rows are the same 446 gallons on the same 42 by 48 by 59.25 inch shell at the same 542 pounds, under three part numbers in two series, with nothing else published about any of them. That is exactly how we print it. If a drawing, a spares list or an existing fleet names one of those numbers, order that number and ask us to verify the record against the part before it ships; if none of your paperwork names any, the choice between them is administrative. The bottom two rows are the ones that inform a design. Step down to 350 gallons and you lose twelve inches of height and seventy-three pounds of empty weight while giving up close to a hundred gallons. Step up to 550 and you gain twelve inches and seventy pounds for a similar gain in volume. Every one of those steps costs you nothing in floor area, which is the single most useful thing to understand about this family: the plan is fixed at 42 by 48 inches and the only currency you are trading is vertical space against gallons. So do the survey before the sizing. Measure the clear height above the intended position, the door the vessel comes through, and the height your forklift can place a loaded vessel at, then buy the tallest tote all three of those allow. • The vent: the 22 inch manway is listed as vented, and the vent is what lets 446 gallons leave through a 2 inch valve without the vessel working against itself. Keep it clear, look at it whenever the manway is off, and never blank it to control an odour.
• The air space: the nameplate volume is not the level to fill to. Leave headspace for a warm afternoon and for a product that gasses, and mark the working fill so it is not judged by eye from the top.
• The opening: 22 inches at the top of a 59.25 inch vessel, which is high enough to want a step and low enough not to want a platform. It passes a wash head, a lance, a strainer and an arm with a light.
• The inlet: a 2 inch access port as listed, with the coupling arrangement confirmed against this part number rather than assumed from the family.
• The outlet: a 2 inch 316 stainless ball valve, quarter turn, in the same corrosion-resistant family as the shell. Support the hose and any reducer on their own bracket, with a flexible connection at the first joint if a pump is downstream.
• Limits: no maximum service temperature, no warranty, no pressure rating and no stacking load is published on this sheet, so none is claimed.
