A 5,500 gallon heavy duty XLPE tank on a seven and a half foot circle
Snyder part number 7020000N48 is a 5,500 gallon heavy duty vertical storage tank moulded in black crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE), 90 inches in diameter and 221 inches tall, 2,000 lb empty. It is the tall, narrow answer to a lot of liquid on a small footprint. The wall is rated for liquids up to 1.9 specific gravity, which is the heavy duty rating in Snyder's range and covers dense chemicals that an ordinary tank is not built for; 5,500 gallons of water alone weighs 5,500 x 8.34 = 45,870 lb, and a liquid at the full rating weighs 1.9 times that. The top carries an 18 inch threaded vented manway. Snyder puts the service limit at 140 F (60 C), and backs it with a 3 year warranty. Black keeps light off the contents.

Eighteen feet of tank, and what the site owes it
At 221 inches the manway is a little over eighteen feet up. That is a caged ladder to a fixed platform with a rail. What you get for it is a 90 inch circle, seven and a half feet across, that fits an aisle, a containment bay or a corner of a chemical building that a wide tank never will. The centre of gravity is the highest of anything at this volume, so the tank is strapped to structure or to anchors cast into the slab while it is still empty, in the upper part of the shell where the straps do the most good. Under it, the pad carries 45,870 lb of water or more with a dense liquid on a seven and a half foot circle; pour it to our concrete pad sizing guide, level and in full contact. What the heavy duty wall is for
The 1.9 rating is the reason to buy this tank over the standard wall in the same shell. Openings and fittings
- Manway. An 18 inch threaded vented manway at the top of the shell. Run a dip tube to the floor so the fill stream does not foam the headspace.
- Outlet. Tell us the liquid, the flow and the pump at order and we confirm the outlet this tank is supplied with before anything is drilled. Mount the pump below the outlet, fit a low level float, and carry the first valve on its own support with a flexible connector to the shell.
- Vent. Sized to the delivery pump and piped outdoors on anything that fumes.

It arrives lying down and has to be stood up, so plan a crane or a loader with straps under the body, never a sling through the manway, and have the tie-downs ready before the crane is released.
