The 3 inch outlet on a dense liquid
- Outlet: 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, at the base; tell us the liquid when ordering and the fitting is matched to it, with a flanged transition, a flexible connector to hard pipe, and the valve supported off the pad in the material the chemical calls for.
- Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 91 inches up, reached from a step; fill by tote pump or truck through a dip tube, vent outside on acid and caustic service, and size the vent for the delivery pump.
- Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.
A 3 inch outlet drains a full tank in a working shift and never starves a transfer pump; put the pump below the outlet, where gravity keeps it primed, and let a low-level float shut it down before it runs dry. Keep the manway closed against vapor loss, label the tank so the fire inspector and the workplace inspector read the same thing, and inspect the headspace wall from the manway with a light; that is where a chemical tank ages first. In a freezing climate the outlet valve and the first run of pipe get heat trace or insulation; the tank body itself can ice from the top down and come to no harm.
