The Snyder Industries 6500 Gallon XLPE Cone Bottom Tank is a crosslinked linear polyethylene (XLPE) vessel rated to a 1.5 specific gravity, built for full-drain bulk chemical storage where solids settle out and you need to empty the tank completely. It holds 6,500 gallons, stands 273 in. tall on a 90 x 90 in. footprint, and molds in Natural White. The cone bottom drains to a center outlet through the stand the tank sits in - this is a cone bottom tank that requires a matched stand, not a flat-bottom drop-in. If you are still sizing the system, run the numbers through our Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide before you commit to a stand.

Will it hold your chemical and your weight?

The 1.5 SG rating is the number that matters most. Filled with plain water at 1.0 SG this tank weighs about 54,210 lb; at its 1.5 SG rating it carries up to 81,315 lb of contents. That 27,105 lb gap is your specific-gravity headroom, and at 1.5 SG you are at the wall - so confirm your chemical's specific gravity stays at or under 1.5 at your actual storage temperature, not just its nominal value, because exceeding the rating overstresses the XLPE wall. Factory fittings on this tank, per the technical drawing on this page, include a FLANGE, an 18" PE threaded/vented fitting, and a MANWAY w/15" ACCESS for entry, gauging, and venting. Verify the cone slope, outlet, and fitting clocking against the technical drawing on this page before you order valves and a stand, since the stand height and the outlet plumbing must be designed together.

Chemical compatibility

This tank is molded from XLPE and rated to 1.5 specific gravity. Compatible chemicals for a 1.5 SG XLPE tank include Acetic Acid (60%, PP/PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets - details), Aluminum Sulfate (50%, PVC/EPDM), Calcium Chloride (40%, PVC/EPDM), DEF (32.5%, EPDM), Ferrous Sulfate (20%, PVC/EPDM), Magnesium Chloride (30%, PVC/EPDM), Sodium Carbonate (30%, PVC/EPDM), Urea Solution (50%, PP/PVC, EPDM), and Ozonated Water (up to 10 PPM, PVC/EPDM). Match the fitting and gasket material to your chemical - the wrong elastomer fails long before the tank does. Note one hardware exception in this list: DEF calls for 316 stainless fittings, not PVC, so do not default to plastic for diesel exhaust fluid service. Always check the OEM chemical-resistance chart for your exact concentration and temperature, since compatibility is concentration- and temperature-specific.

If your chemical needs a heavier tank

Several common chemicals require a 1.9 SG XLPE tank, not this 1.5 SG model - if your service is on this list, do not buy this tank, buy the 1.9 SG version. They are Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrofluosilicic Acid (Viton gaskets, not EPDM), Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol (PP/316SS fittings), and Sodium Thiosulfate. The two glycols and the water-treatment coagulants Ferric Chloride and Polyaluminum Chloride are the most common misorders here, so confirm your chemical's SG before you commit. Cross-reference everything in our Chemical Compatibility Database before final fitting selection.

The mistake to avoid

The costly error on a cone bottom this size is bolting it to the wrong stand or skipping fitting and gasket verification. The cone bottom carries its full 81,315 lb of contents through the stand, so the stand must be rated to match your service - see our Cone Bottom Tank Stand Compatibility Matrix. Plan your gauging early with our tank level gauge selection guide, label the tank correctly per our tank labeling and signage compliance guide, and if secondary containment is in scope review our Snyder Captor Plus 110% containment comparison.

This tank ships LTL freight from the Snyder plant in Lincoln, NE, quoted live to your ZIP. Get your number from our Freight Cost Estimator or call 866-418-1777 to lock in fittings, stand, and delivery together.
