The Snyder Industries 6500 Gallon XLPE Heavy Duty Cone Bottom Tank is a crosslinked-polyethylene (XLPE) cone bottom tank built for full-drain chemical service. It carries a 1.9 specific gravity rating, stands 273 inches tall on a 90.0 x 90.0 inch footprint, and is molded in black resin. The cone geometry empties completely to the centerline outlet, which is why batching, metering, and mix-and-drain chemical operations choose this Snyder cone tank over a flat-bottom vertical.

Will it work for your chemical and your fittings?

The 1.9 SG rating is the number that matters most here. It tells you the tank wall is engineered to hold contents up to 1.9 times the weight of water, so the heavier the chemistry, the more that rating earns its keep. At 6500 gallons, plain water alone weighs about 54,210 lb full; the tank's maximum rated contents weight is roughly 102,999 lb, which is the ceiling once you factor a dense liquid against the 1.9 SG rating. Note that 1.9 is the heaviest-duty SG rating offered for this size and geometry, so if your chemistry runs above 1.9 specific gravity, call us at 866-418-1777 rather than expecting a heavier tank. The 90.0 x 90.0 inch footprint is the tank body only; because the cone drains to a centerline outlet, the full liquid load hangs off a support stand, so add stand height and clearance when you size a building bay. The technical drawing on this page details the penetrations: a flange, an 18-inch PE threaded and vented fitting, and a manway with 15-inch access for entry, gauging, and gasket service. Use the Tank Sizing Calculator and our Tank Sizing Guide to match the cone volume to your batch size before you order.

Chemical compatibility

This is an XLPE (crosslinked polyethylene) tank rated to 1.9 specific gravity. XLPE resists stress cracking and chemical attack better than standard HDPE, which is why it carries chemistry-duty applications. Always verify against the OEM chemical-resistance chart at your exact concentration and operating temperature before committing a tank to service. Watch the exceptions: most chemicals below pair with PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets, but DEF wants 316 stainless fittings, hydrofluosilicic acid wants Viton gaskets, and propylene glycol wants PP or 316SS. The following chemicals are compatible with this XLPE tank at the listed strengths, with the recommended fitting and gasket materials:

These fitting and gasket choices apply at the flange and the 18-inch threaded penetration, and the 15-inch manway access is where you reach those gaskets to service them. Because XLPE cannot be re-welded in the field, spec the penetration and gasket materials to your chemical before install, and browse the full Chemical Compatibility Database for anything not listed here.

The mistake to avoid

The costliest error on a chemistry-duty cone tank is confusing XLPE with HDPE, or over-trusting the SG rating. Crosslinked polyethylene cannot be re-welded or repaired in the field the way linear HDPE can, so plan your fittings and penetrations before installation, not after. For the why behind crosslinking, read Snyder XLPE vs HDPE: When Crosslinking Matters for Chemistry Duty. Because the cone hangs the full liquid load off a stand, the support structure is not optional - see the Cone Bottom Tank Stand Compatibility Matrix and, for monitoring dense chemistry, our guide to Tank Level Gauge Selection for Chemical Service. If your install needs secondary containment, compare approaches in Snyder Captor Plus 110% Containment vs UL-142.
