75 Gallon Vertical Liquid Storage Tank

Where it goes

Seventy-five gallons on a 23 inch circle is a tank for tight spaces that still need a real day's supply: a chemical feed tank beside a boiler or a cooling tower, a rinse water tank on a wash bay, a holding tank in a well house, a nutrient tank in a greenhouse, or a water tank bolted into a service body. It goes through a standard doorway upright and stands against a wall without stealing walkway. The lid sits at 49 inches, chest height for most people, so filling from a hose is easy and filling from a bucket is possible. Full of water it puts about 630 lb on the base, and a rotationally moulded base bears on everything it touches and nothing else, so set it on a flat slab, a solid deck or a continuous plywood floor, never across joists or on a grate.

What goes in it

Water, liquid fertilizer, wash and rinse water and the common treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads. Liquids heavier than 1.5 times water, including many concentrated acids and some salt brines, belong in a heavy duty tank rated 1.9. Keep the contents under 120 F. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 1-1/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the side wall. Thread a 1-1/4 inch valve straight into it. Turn the valve so the handle clears the tank wall before the threads are sealed, and carry the first length of pipe on its own support within a foot or so of the fitting.
2. Lid. An 8 inch threaded vented lid. Wide enough for a fill hose, a float or a small submersible pump; the vent lets air in as liquid goes out so the tank never pulls a vacuum.
