Why the 145 inch molding and not the 153s

Every other 6500 gallon tank on this sheet is a 153 inch molding. This one is 145, and those eight inches are the reason it exists. Measure the purlins before anything else: a platform, a fill line and a vent line all want room above the manway, and on a site where the 153s leave none, this shell fits and they do not. Vent capacity for a 6500 gallon delivery

• Vent and fill: one 18 inch threaded vented manway serves as fill point, hatch and vent path, and at 6500 gallons the vent is the fitting that decides whether a fast tanker delivery is a routine hour or an incident. Size the vent path to the delivery pump rather than to the tank, keep it screened and clear, run it outdoors where the liquid fumes, and treat a restricted vent on a tank being pumped out as the emergency it is.
• Fill path: down a dip tube to the floor. A 6500 gallon load dropped from twelve feet onto the surface aerates the liquid, mists the headspace and builds static, and a dip tube costs less than any of the three.
• Headspace: the vapor band above the liquid line is where a chemical tank shows its age first, so put a light on it at every opening and keep the manway closed between deliveries.
