Who buys the 6,500, and what delivery day looks like

Water plants that feed hypochlorite or caustic buy this tank, and so do co-ops that hold a fertilizer solution between spring runs. Both share a delivery pattern: a transport truck backs to the pad, the driver's pump pushes the load up a hose to the fill connection, the vent moves the displaced air, and the tank takes most of a truck in the better part of an hour. That is the duty the 6,500 is sized for, with enough headspace above the working level that a scheduled delivery never has to short-fill, and a floor the plant does not have to give up to a second tank. Full of water it weighs 54,210 pounds, about twenty-seven tons on a 120 inch circle, and full at the rating 81,315, all of it on the slab, because a rotationally molded floor bears on the whole pad; the slab is engineered per the concrete pad sizing guide, level and in full contact, inside a berm sized to 110 percent of the tank where the liquid is regulated. This is the white tank in the shell, and white is the choice when the operator wants to see the level and the liquid does not mind light. The N33 is the black 1.35 rated wall for water and thin solutions in the sun, the N46 is the black wall at the same weight as this one, and the N48 is the black heavy-duty wall at 2,000 pounds for the dense chemicals. The pump below the outlet, and the float that saves it

• Outlet: the sheet's outlet field reads 24, and we print it as given; tell us the liquid at order and the fitting size, gasket and bolting are confirmed for it, with a flanged transition, a flexible connector to hard pipe, and the first valve supported off the pad, never hung on the wall.
• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 153 inches up, opened from a platform with a rail; fill through a dip tube to the floor, vent outdoors on a liquid that fumes, and size the vent to the delivery pump.
• Service limit: 140 F / 60 C.

The metering pump that draws from this tank wants a flooded suction, and nearly thirteen feet of liquid above the outlet gives it one: mount the pump below the outlet, run the suction line short with no high point that can trap a bubble, and the pump primes itself every time the valve opens. A pump set above the outlet on a shelf will lose its prime on the day the tank runs low and the supervisor is elsewhere, so it does not go there. Put a low-level float in the tank wired to stop the pump before it draws air; a chemical metering pump running dry loses its check valves first and its diaphragm second, and both fail on a holiday. A strainer on the suction side catches the crumbs a delivery brings. Keep the manway closed between deliveries, name the one chemical on the wall, and look at the band of wall above the liquid line with a light whenever the lid is off. Where winters freeze, the valve and the first run of pipe are what crack; wrap or trace them and let the body ice from the top down.

Water plants, and the jobs this wall is not for

Sodium hypochlorite and caustic at a municipal water plant are the classic loads: light does not need to be kept off them in a building, the operator wants to see the level, and the plant buys by the tanker. Fill it with water to the manway once and hold it, watching the pad edge and the outlet fitting for movement or a weep, then drain and dry before the chemical arrives; after that the log takes the date and strength of every load.
