6,500 gallons at 1.5 specific gravity under twelve feet with a 3 inch outlet

The Snyder 7140300C37 is a white polyethylene vertical liquid storage tank, 120.4 inches across and 145.1 inches tall, holding 6,500 gallons at 1,500 pounds. Its wall is rated for a specific gravity of 1.5, or 81,315 pounds of contents against 54,210 for water, so it holds brine, fertilizer solution and coagulant as delivered as well as water, it comes with a 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting already in the wall, and the ten foot base takes a tanker load and a working reserve under a twelve foot roof with the manway reached from a short platform. The manway is 18 inches, threaded and vented, the warranty is 3 years, and the freight is oversize.

The lowest 6,500 on the ten foot base

Six and a half thousand gallons is a tanker with a working reserve, and this shell puts it 8 inches lower than the 7140000 tanks beside it, which is the difference between fitting under a twelve foot eave and not. A water-rated wall is for water and nothing heavier; the chemical-grade wall is for concentrated acid; a 1.5 wall is the middle, sized for brine, fertilizer solution and coagulant as delivered and every water application, with margin. The 3 inch fitting is the outlet a fire pump or a transfer pump wants, already in the wall. Full, it puts 81,315 pounds on a 120 inch circle at the rating: an engineered slab with nothing but concrete under the whole floor, following the concrete pad sizing guide, with the empty tank strapped against wind. Two of our buyers guides cover this volume in other makers' shapes, the first 6,500 gallon vertical tank buyers guide and the second 6,500 gallon vertical tank buyers guide. The tank sizing calculator tells you whether 6,500 gallons covers the draw, and the tank sizing guide covers days of supply.

The 7140000 tanks hold the same 6,500 gallons 8 inches taller in a lighter shell, the N40 in cross-linked resin for oxidizers and the N33 in black for sun. The 8220000 tanks are the 6,200 step down, 5 inches lower, the C37 with this same 1.5 wall and 3 inch fitting, and the 5300400N40 stands 6,600 gallons of cross-linked resin 13 inches taller.

Manway, outlet, limits

  • Outlet: 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, installed; thread in a valve, run a flexible connector and an expansion joint to hard pipe, and support the valve off the slab.
  • Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 145 inches up; filled by truck through a dip tube, vented outside on anything that fumes, and size the vent for a tanker's unload rate.
  • Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

Polypropylene is the fitting for water, brine and most treatment chemicals; check the liquid at its concentration against the fitting as well as the wall before the first fill. The white wall shows the level in daylight; fit a sender read at ground level so nobody climbs for a number, and fit a low-level float switch so a pump never runs dry. Put the pump below the outlet, where it primes itself, close the manway against vapor loss, and keep a light-sensitive liquid out of direct sun. In a freezing climate insulate or drain the outlet valve and the first run of pipe; the body takes ice from the top down without harm.

Unloading a tanker safely

The truck's pump outruns the manway vent, so size the vent for the unload rate or give the fill its own top bulkhead and vent line. The fill pipe reaches the floor, so the liquid enters below the surface instead of free-falling and foaming. The first load into a new tank gets watched end to end, eyes on the slab edge and the outlet fitting while the level comes up, and from then on each load is logged by date and strength.

Where it earns its keep

Coagulant, brine and fertilizer solution delivered by tanker with a reserve under a twelve foot eave, well storage for a community system, a rain cistern under a large roof, and a fire reserve of the kind the fire-water reservoir design guide describes, where the 3 inch outlet feeds the pump. One liquid per tank, labeled.

Moving it, setting it, filling it

At 120 inches across and 145 inches long on the deck the 7140300C37 is oversize freight (NMFC 156600) on a flatbed at a lane rate; the freight cost estimator prices the move to your ZIP, and the price on this page is before freight. A crane or a forklift with long forks sets 1,500 pounds on the slab. Fill it to the manway once, hold it, and check the fitting for a weep before the pump goes on. Put the tank's part number on the maintenance log the day it lands; five years on, nobody remembers which shell it is.
