The Norwesco 85-gallon applicator saddle tank (SKU N-45105) is a white polyethylene specialty tank built for the fertilizer and applicator work that mounts saddle-style alongside a spreader or field rig.It holds 85 gallons, weighs 29 lb empty, and carries a 1.5 specific gravity rating with an FDA-approved resin and a 120 F / 48 C maximum service temperature. The tank measures 52" long by 26" wide by 26" high with a 23"-diameter body, a 5" lid for filling and inspection, and a 0.75" outlet for plumbing your applicator line.

Will this 85 gallon saddle tank work for your rig?

Size the load before you mount it.Filled with water this tank carries about 709 lb; loaded to its full 1.5 SG rating it reaches roughly 1,063 lb of contents, so your saddle brackets, frame, and mounting hardware have to carry over half a ton when it is topped off.Run those weights through the Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide against the density of what you are actually hauling, and plan your saddle mount around the 23"-diameter footprint and 52" length. One plumbing note: the outlet is a 3/4" bulkhead, which is small for fast applicator draw or fill — fill through the 5" lid and size your pump and lines to that 3/4" fitting rather than expecting high flow off the outlet. For how these applicator and leg tanks fall under DOT scope, see our guides on Norwesco applicator and leg tanks for fertilizer and NRT scope and the 49 CFR 173.5 agricultural exemption. You can see the tank body and fitting layout in the technical drawing on this page.

Chemical compatibility

This is a polyethylene tank rated to 1.5 specific gravity. The resin code reads HDLPE with an open question, so confirm HDLPE versus XLPE with us before you commit it to chemical service.Compatibility below is drawn from the Snyder Industries OEM chemical-resistance chart and is concentration- and temperature-specific, so verify your exact chemical, concentration, temperature, and fitting and gasket materials before ordering.Cross-check each against the full chemical compatibility reference.

At this 1.5 SG rating the tank suits acetic acid (60%), aluminum sulfate (50%), calcium chloride (40%), ferrous sulfate (20%), magnesium chloride (30%), sodium carbonate (30%), and urea solution (50%), most of which call for PVC fittings with EPDM gaskets. If you are running DEF (32.5%), this is a natural fit: the FDA-approved resin pairs with 316SS fittings and EPDM gaskets, the two facts that decide most DEF purchases.Ozonated water up to 10 PPM is also rated at this SG — it has no dedicated compatibility page yet, so confirm the detail by phone.

Some chemicals need a heavier tank than this one.Sulfuric acid (98%, CPVC + Viton), hydrochloric acid (37%, PVC + Viton), sodium hypochlorite (PVC + Viton), phosphoric acid (85%, PVC + Viton), hydrogen peroxide (50%, PVC + Viton), peracetic acid (30%, 316SS + Aflas), ethylene glycol, and ferric chloride (50%) all require a 1.9 SG body and, in several cases, Viton or Aflas gaskets rather than EPDM — do not run those in this 1.5-rated tank.If your chemical is on that list, call 866-418-1777 and we will spec the correct 1.5 SG Norwesco tank with the right fittings. The mistake to avoid on a saddle applicator tank is loading a dense blend past the 1.5 rating; a stratified or over-dense fertilizer load stresses both the tank wall and your mount, and our fertilizer-blend stratification guide covers the field checks that catch it.
