A 1600 gallon heavy duty 30 degree cone bottom tank that arrives with its stand
The Norwesco 1600 gallon 30 degree cone bottom tank with poly stand, part number 40815, is a heavy duty polyethylene tank 89 inches in diameter and 96 inches tall on its stand, weighing 558 lb with the stand. Unlike most cone bottom tanks, the stand is part of the package: a moulded polyethylene stand that cradles the 30 degree cone and lifts the outlet clear of the floor, so there is no steel frame to source, match or paint. The 30 degree cone drains steeper than a 15 degree cone, which is what thicker liquids and settling blends need to leave the tank clean. It comes with a 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the point of the cone and a 16 inch threaded vented manway on top. The tank is rated for liquids up to 1.9 specific gravity: 1600 gallons of water weighs 13344 lb, and at the full rating the contents can reach 25354 lb. The resin is FDA compliant per Norwesco, the service limit is 120 F, and Norwesco backs the tank with a 5 year warranty.

Where it goes
A sprayer fill station, a small fertilizer blending plant, a water treatment chemical day tank, a brewery or food plant process tank, a wash down or rinse system: anywhere a batch has to drain completely and the tank has to go in without a fabricated steel stand. The poly stand puts the whole assembly at 96 inches tall, so measure the clear height where it will stand and the door it comes through. The stand needs a flat, level, continuous floor under its full 89 inch footprint, with no drain, joint or slope under it; a stand on a floor that falls toward a drain sits unevenly and loads one side of the cone. The 1600 gallon 30 degree cone bottom tank buyers guide covers this size in detail, and the tank sizing calculator and tank sizing guide settle whether 1600 gallons is the right batch size.
What goes in it
Liquid fertilizer, water and the treatment and process chemicals that polyethylene handles, with the 1.9 rating covering the dense blends a standard tank is not built for. Before anything goes in, check the liquid in our chemical compatibility guide; cone tank buyers most often look up urea solution, sulfuric acid, sodium hypochlorite, phosphoric acid and peracetic acid. Keep the contents under 120 F.
What to check before you buy
- The outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the point of the cone. Your valve threads straight into it; support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware. If you would rather drill and fit your own outlet, Norwesco makes this tank with no fitting, linked below.
- The manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top: the fill point, the vent and the opening for a brush or a mixer shaft.
- The height underneath. With the tank on its stand the outlet sits high enough for a valve and a hose. If a pump inlet, a drum or a mixer has to go under it, measure that equipment against the drawing before you order.
- The drawing. Norwesco's drawing for this tank is linked on this page under Technical Drawing and shows the stand, the outlet height and the manway.
