The Norwesco 1050 Gallon 20 Degree Cone Bottom Tank (SKU N-40356) is a closed-top polyethylene cone bottom tank built for processes that need full drainage and complete settled-solids removal. It stands 86 inches tall on a 73 x 73 inch footprint, and the 20-degree cone discharges contents under gravity so you are not chasing residue out of a flat floor. With a 1.5 specific gravity rating, it holds liquids up to 1.5 times the weight of water, which is what makes it a working chemical-service vessel rather than a plain water tank.

Chemical compatibility

This tank is polyethylene rated to 1.5 specific gravity; the resin is recorded as HDLPE but is not yet confirmed, so verify HDLPE versus XLPE construction with us before putting it into chemical service. At the 1.5 SG rating, it handles Acetic Acid (60%), Aluminum Sulfate (50%), Calcium Chloride (40%), DEF (32.5%), Ferrous Sulfate (20%), Magnesium Chloride (30%), Sodium Carbonate (30%), Urea Solution (50%), and Ozonated Water (up to 10 PPM). Match fittings and gaskets to the chemical: PP or PVC fittings with EPDM gaskets for Acetic Acid and Urea Solution; PVC with EPDM for Aluminum Sulfate, Calcium Chloride, Ferrous Sulfate, Magnesium Chloride, Sodium Carbonate, and Ozonated Water. Note that DEF is the only chemical on this list that requires 316 stainless steel fittings (with EPDM gaskets) rather than PVC or PP, so budget for that if DEF is your service. Chemicals that need a higher-SG tank

Several dense or aggressive chemicals exceed the 1.5 SG rating and require a 1.9 specific gravity tank instead. If you are storing Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid, Phosphoric Acid, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Hypochlorite, Sodium Thiosulfate, Sulfuric Acid, or Zinc Orthophosphate, talk to us about the matching 1.9 SG cone bottom tank and the correct fitting and gasket package. The gasket material is not always standard EPDM: the Viton group includes Hydrochloric, Hydrofluoric, Hydrofluosilicic, Hydrogen Peroxide, Phosphoric, Sodium Hypochlorite, and Sulfuric Acid; Peracetic Acid calls for Aflas gaskets on 316 stainless fittings; and Sulfuric Acid specifically needs CPVC fittings. Putting any of these in a 1.5 SG tank is the most common and most expensive mistake on a cone bottom build.
