The Snyder Industries 1000 Gallon Vertical Double Wall Chemical Storage Tank is built for one job: holding aggressive liquids inside a containment shell so a primary-tank failure does not become a spill. Both the primary and secondary walls are molded from high density linear polyethylene (HDLPE), and the tank carries a 1.9 specific gravity rating - the heaviest standard rating in Snyder's chemical line, which is what lets it hold dense industrial chemicals rather than just water. It stores 1000 gallons in white and sits on an 81 x 81 inch footprint. Full of water it weighs about 8,340 lb; at its 1.9 SG rating the maximum rated contents weight is 15,846 lb, so the pad and anchoring beneath it must be engineered for that figure, not for the water weight.

Will it work for your liquid

This is a vertical storage tank with an integrated double wall, so the secondary containment travels with the tank instead of requiring a separate dike or basin. Size the system off the 1.9 SG ceiling: multiply your chemical's specific gravity by the gallons you intend to store and confirm the result stays under the 15,846 lb rated-contents number. If your chemical's specific gravity exceeds 1.9, call us before ordering - this tank is at the top of its standard rating and a heavier liquid needs a different build. Our Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide walk through that math. For exact tank height and diameter, fitting locations, and the dry containment volume of the outer shell, check the technical drawing on this page - fitting and outlet configuration varies by build, so confirm bulkhead, lid, and vent sizes against the drawing or by phone before you specify valves.

Chemical compatibility

The tank resin is HDLPE with a 1.9 specific gravity rating, suitable for heavier chemical service. Always verify your specific chemical, concentration, and operating temperature against the manufacturer's chemical-resistance chart before filling, since fitting and gasket selection changes with the chemical. Compatible chemicals from the OEM chart, with the recommended wetted fitting and gasket materials, include:

  • Acetic Acid 60% - PP/PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Aluminum Sulfate 50% - PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Calcium Chloride 40% - PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • DEF (urea) 32.5% - 316SS fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Ethylene Glycol 100% - PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Ferric Chloride 50% - PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Ferric Sulfate 60% - PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Ferrous Sulfate 20% - PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Hydrochloric Acid 37% - PVC fittings, Viton gaskets (details)
  • Hydrofluoric Acid 48% - PP/PVC fittings, Viton gaskets (details)
  • Hydrofluosilicic Acid 26% - PP/PVC fittings, Viton gaskets (details)
  • Hydrogen Peroxide 50% - PVC fittings, Viton gaskets (details)
  • Magnesium Chloride 30% - PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Peracetic Acid 30% - 316SS fittings, Aflas gaskets (details)
  • Phosphoric Acid 85% - PVC fittings, Viton gaskets (details)
  • Polyaluminum Chloride - PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Potassium Carbonate 50% - PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Potassium Hydroxide, Saturated - PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Propylene Glycol - PP/316SS fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Sodium Bisulfate - PVC/PP fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Sodium Bisulfite - PVC/PP fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Sodium Carbonate 30% - PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Sodium Hypochlorite <16.5% - PVC fittings, Viton gaskets (details)
  • Sodium Thiosulfate 40% - PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Sulfuric Acid 98% - CPVC fittings, Viton gaskets (details)
  • Urea Solution 50% - PP/PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Zinc Orthophosphate - PP/316SS fittings, EPDM gaskets (details)
  • Ozonated Water, up to 10 PPM - PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets

These ratings come from the OEM chemical-resistance chart and are concentration- and temperature-specific. Confirm your exact conditions against that chart and our Chemical Compatibility Database before ordering fittings.

The mistake to avoid

The most common error on a double wall chemical tank is matching the gasket to the tank instead of to the chemical. HDLPE handles a wide range of liquids, but the wetted gasket and fitting material is what actually fails first - this chart calls for Viton on sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, hydrogen peroxide, and sodium hypochlorite, Aflas on peracetic acid, and 316 stainless on DEF and peracetic acid, not the default EPDM used elsewhere. Spec the gasket to your chemical, not the other way around. DEF in particular (urea 32.5%) calls for 316SS fittings with EPDM - worth confirming if you are setting this up for diesel or agricultural service. If you plan to store something not on this chart, call us at 866-418-1777 before you buy.

Double wall and SPCC

The integrated secondary wall is what makes this tank work for spill prevention plans: containment travels with the tank instead of a separate dike. For SPCC 40 CFR 112, the outer wall needs to hold the full volume of the primary - size and verify the dry containment volume on the technical drawing covers 100%+ of the 1000-gallon primary per your plan before you commit. Our Snyder Captor double-wall SPCC 40 CFR 112 walkthrough covers how integrated containment fits a spill prevention program.

This 1000 gallon vertical double wall tank ships LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP from the nearest Snyder plant - Chowchilla, CA or Lincoln, NE. Because the loaded weight runs to 15,846 lb, plan for a forklift or crane and a clear delivery path. Get a freight estimate with our Freight Cost Estimator or call 866-418-1777 to lock in routing and accessory fittings.
