The Snyder Industries 1000 Gallon Vertical Double Wall Waste Oil Tank is a yellow, factory-integrated primary-and-secondary containment vessel molded from High Density Linear Polyethylene with a 1.9 specific gravity rating. It is built first and foremost for waste oil collection: the inner tank holds the oil while the outer wall captures any leak, so a separate poured curb or steel berm is unnecessary. That same 1.9 SG rating is what lets it run far heavier and more aggressive chemistries than oil when you need it to. It stands 69 inches tall on an 81 by 81 inch footprint as one self-contained unit. The 1.9 SG number is where every weight calc starts: at full water it carries 8,340 pounds, and at its maximum rated contents weight it is engineered to hold 15,846 pounds, which is what lets it safely run dense fluids well past the weight of plain water.

Will it work for your application

This is a true double wall tank, so the outer wall captures a leak from the inner tank without a separate dike. The fittings package on this unit, shown on the technical drawing on this page, includes an 18-inch hinged polypropylene manway with lock (assembly HYPRO) fitted with an 18-inch strainer basket manway (#T8159000) that screens out chips, sludge, and debris as oil is poured in during top-fill, plus a 2-inch polypropylene bulkhead fitting with EPDM seal for draw-off. Confirm those fitting and gasket materials suit your fluid before you plumb it. For sizing across capacities and to weight-check your contents against the 1.9 SG rating, run the Tank Sizing Calculator or read the Tank Sizing Guide. If this is hazardous-waste service, the secondary containment design maps directly to the questions covered in our walkthrough of RCRA 40 CFR 264.193 secondary containment, leak detection, and inspection cadence, and for oil storage the Snyder Captor double-wall SPCC 40 CFR 112 walkthrough. To weigh integral double wall against a single-wall-plus-dike approach, see the Captor 110% containment vs UL-142 comparison and our freeboard sizing guide for the usable volume after thermal expansion.

Chemical compatibility beyond waste oil

Molded in HDLPE and carrying a 1.9 specific gravity rating, this tank handles dense chemistries when fitted correctly. Per the Snyder chemical-resistance chart, which is concentration- and temperature-specific, this resin and SG rating handle Acetic Acid at 60%, Aluminum Sulfate at 50%, Calcium Chloride at 40%, Ethylene Glycol at 100%, Ferric Chloride at 50%, Ferric Sulfate at 60%, Ferrous Sulfate at 20%, Hydrochloric Acid at 37%, Hydrofluoric Acid at 48%, Hydrofluosilicic Acid at 26%, Hydrogen Peroxide at 50%, Magnesium Chloride at 30%, Peracetic Acid at 30%, Phosphoric Acid at 85%, Potassium Carbonate at 50%, Potassium Hydroxide at saturation, Sodium Carbonate at 30%, Sodium Hypochlorite below 16.5%, Sodium Thiosulfate at 40%, Sulfuric Acid at 98%, Urea Solution at 50%, Polyaluminum Chloride, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Zinc Orthophosphate, and Ozonated Water up to 10 PPM. It also handles DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) at 32.5% with 316 stainless fittings, making it a workable fleet or bulk DEF storage tank where that volume is needed. Fitting and gasket selection changes by chemical: most run PVC or PP fittings with an EPDM gasket, but acids like Hydrochloric, Hydrofluoric, Hydrofluosilicic, Hydrogen Peroxide, Phosphoric, and Sodium Hypochlorite call for Viton, Sulfuric Acid at 98% wants CPVC with Viton, and Peracetic Acid wants 316 stainless with Aflas. Match the fitting and gasket material to your specific chemical and concentration against the OEM chart before ordering. Detail pages for each chemical: Acetic Acid, Aluminum Sulfate, Calcium Chloride, DEF, Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Magnesium Chloride, Peracetic Acid, Phosphoric Acid, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Carbonate, Sodium Hypochlorite, Sodium Thiosulfate, Sulfuric Acid, Urea Solution, and Zinc Orthophosphate. The mistake to avoid

The common error on a tank like this is treating the 1.9 SG rating as a free pass and skipping the fitting and gasket match. The rating governs how heavy a fluid the polyethylene shell can carry, not whether your specific chemistry attacks the bulkhead seal or manway gasket: an EPDM seal that is fine for Calcium Chloride is the wrong choice for Sulfuric Acid, where you need CPVC and Viton, or for DEF, where you need 316 stainless. Verify your exact chemical and concentration against the OEM chart, then spec the matching fitting and gasket material. The other error is forgetting freeboard for thermal expansion, which is why the rated contents weight assumes you are not filling to the brim.
