A 4,500 gallon black XLPE tank for a room with a low ceiling
Snyder part number 7000400N46 is a 4,500 gallon vertical storage tank moulded in black crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE), 143 inches in diameter and 91 inches tall, 900 lb empty. It is the standard wall on Snyder's widest, lowest mould in this capacity: just under twelve feet across and a little over seven and a half feet tall. The wall is rated for liquids up to 1.5 specific gravity: water, most liquid fertilizers and many common treatment chemicals. 4,500 gallons of water weighs 4,500 x 8.34 = 37,530 lb. The top carries an 18 inch threaded vented manway. Snyder puts the service limit at 140 F (60 C), and backs it with a 3 year warranty. Black keeps light out of the contents.

Floor instead of height
At 91 inches the manway is reachable from a stepladder, the shell goes under a joist ceiling, a mezzanine or a shed roof, and nothing about the install needs a platform or a wind calculation. The trade is slab: a 143 inch circle will not pass a doorway or tuck into a corner, so walk the route from the dock to the pad with a tape before the order is cut. A rotationally moulded floor bears on the whole circle, so the pad carries 37,530 lb of water through every square foot and has to be level, cured and in full contact; pour it to our concrete pad sizing guide. What goes in it
Water, liquid fertilizer and the common treatment chemicals that crosslinked polyethylene handles at 1.5 specific gravity. Openings and fittings
- Manway. An 18 inch threaded vented manway on top of a 91 inch shell: room for a permanent fill connection, a float or sender, and a hand and brush inside to clean. Run a dip tube to the floor so the fill stream does not foam the headspace.
- Outlet. Tell us the liquid, the flow and the pump at order and we confirm the outlet this tank is supplied with before anything is drilled. With only 91 inches of liquid above the floor the suction head is small: mount the pump below the outlet, fit a low level float, and carry the first valve on its own support with a flexible connector to the shell.
- Vent. Sized to the delivery pump and piped outdoors on anything that fumes.

Class 400 on 900 lb is the freight system charging for cube instead of mass: a twelve foot circle takes real deck space whatever it weighs. Have forks long enough to reach across the base or a crane ready on delivery day, with straps under the body and nothing rigged to the lid. Check the part number against 7000400N46 on the bill of lading, set it on the cured pad in one move, fill it with water, hold it, and walk the full circumference twice before the working liquid goes in.
