The acid tank on the small pad

Concentrated sulfuric acid weighs nearly twice what water does and attacks the wall of an ordinary linear polyethylene tank from the inside, at the surface and in the vapor space above the liquid; Snyder's N30 resin is compounded for that service, so the tank is sized for the acid's weight and its chemistry together, and the certification against ASTM D1998 is what says the wall was sized that way. Acid expands more than water with temperature, so the usable volume is less than the nominal; the freeboard sizing guide works out how much. Full, it puts 69,722 pounds on a 90 inch circle at the rating: an engineered slab in full contact under the whole floor, inside a berm sized to the tank, with the eyewash and the shower within reach of the unloading point, the empty tank strapped against wind at two heights and the manway reached from a fixed platform with a rail. The 7360000N52 is the opaque chemical tank at 4,100 gallons on a 102 inch base at 130 inches, for the light-sensitive chemicals rather than acid, and the 1002100C126 holds 5,000 gallons in the general grade on that base for liquids that do not attack a linear wall.

Choose a level sender rated for concentrated acid and read it at ground level so nobody climbs for a number. Acid draws water from the air and heats when it does, so the manway stays closed and the vent carries a drying trap. Never add water to the tank; dilution is done elsewhere, water first.

When the delivery truck arrives

A delivery truck's pump can push air out faster than a stock vent can pass it, so the vent is sized for the unload rate or the fill goes through a dedicated top bulkhead with its own vent line. The fill pipe runs to the floor so the acid does not free-fall and fume; on a shell this tall that is a long drop. Nobody walks away during the first fill: the slab edge and the outlet fitting are checked as the level climbs, and the log takes the date and strength of every load that follows.

What it holds in practice

Getting it to the pad

At 90 inches across and 182 inches long on the deck the 5210000N30 is oversize freight (NMFC 156600) on a flatbed at a lane rate; the freight cost estimator quotes the haul to your ZIP; what is listed is the price before freight. A crane sets 1,450 pounds upright on the slab; a forklift gets it off the truck but cannot stand it up. Water-fill it once to the manway, hold it, then drain and dry completely before the first acid delivery, and keep the certification paperwork with the project file. Write the fill date on the manway with a paint marker; it answers the first question anyone asks about a tank.
